Update on HUG Quilt for Wanda (Genie) Brown (part OT)
I think that I've received all of the blocks for Genie's quilt. I want to
thank all of you who sent one -- it still amazes me how generous so many of you are! I will make sure and pass along any little notes to her when I give her the quilt. Now I have a question; was the fabric prewashed? I forgot to ask about that earlier. I always prewash mine, but I know that many do not do that. I would certainly not want to combine prewashed fabric with that which was washed :-). Some of you suggested that I also make a quilt of for her, and I took up the challange. I have the top pieced but I have not quilted it yet. I never quilted anything bigger than a hotpot holder before so I've been practicing on a couple small pieces, each about 1-yd square. I'm doing it by machine as I can't do it by hand due to a carpal tunnel injury. I am just doing stitch-in-the-ditch and some cross hatching. I used some extra loft polyester batting that I had on hand for the first one and I pinned it; it turned out terrible (a doggie blanket). Last week I purchased some Warm & White needled cotton batting and used K2000 spray to baste the quilt. That turned out much better, so I that's what I am going to use on both quilts. I'm quilting mine this week-end and will then start putting the RCTQ HUG together. Again, many thanks to all of you! OT --- Genie is still undergoing chemotherapy and is now on some medication that has some rather terrible side effects (blisters everywhere, etc). Needless to say, she is feeling rather low. So even though these are normally kept secret until delivered, I told my brother that if he felt she really need some encouragement, to let her know about the HUG. He did and she is absolutely delighted with the thought of getting one, even though it will take me a little while to complete it. I think it was a much needed ray of sunshine at a very low point in her life. I cannot express how much I appreciate this help for a loved one in time of need! -- Real e-mail address spelled out to prevent spam. bkpope at wt dot net |

I'm glad you had that inner nudge to tell her. Sounds like it really helped
her. And keep up the good work on those quilts! You're doing great there! Oh - my fabric was pre-washed. I think most Hug blocks are. If you have any that look and feel unwashed, you might be able to email the person and check. Another update ...
I completed the quilting on my quilt for Wanda. It actually turned out better than I thought it would (though there are a lot of little mistakes here and there). It actually looks quite decent from afar (my DH was actually surprised it looked so good :-)). I also got the binding on, so now I just have to add a label. "Beverly K.
