Default Rope magic

Criminy, how did this happen? I just realized
I know enuf rope tricks to put on clown
make-up and start doing kiddie birthday parties
and bar mitzvahs.

I never started out to learn this stuff, but if you
have a rope in your hand and the Internet on ....
stuff happens. In some instances I find a false knot
more interesting than a real one.

I'm new at this knotting business, but I'll wager the
history of knotting and rope tricks go
hand in hand. I can imagine an old salt dockside
entertaining his mates and passersby with feats
of legerdemain.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that most modern
rope sleight of hand owes its origin to the ancient
mariners, bored on the high seas with too much time
on their hands.

Does the frivolity of rope trickery have any place
with the serious knotting community? After all,
"anyone" can make a knot appear.....

Sure. As you may have noticed, this isn't exactly a blazingly busy
group. Even Clifford Ashley had a section in his book devoted to this
stuff.

Bring up what you had in mind. If people are interested, you'll get
replies.

Cheers,
roo
