FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 11 January 2005

Ganoksin's Orchid Members Set Date for Dinner

At the upcoming Ninth Annual Tucson Orchid Dinner, Orchid members will
once again take a break from their virtual world to meet face-to-face
during the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show on Saturday, February 5, 2005,
at the Savoy Opera House in Tucson, Arizona.

Orchid members will have the opportunity to shake hands - many for the
first time - with colleagues who have connected with one another
personally and professionally via the Orchid online forum. Through the
Ganoksin website, the Orchid forum offers the world's largest free
exchange of substantive technical content spanning a variety of
subjects pertaining to the gem and jewelry industries. The 5200-member
community exchanges industry-specific information, ideas and opinions,
often while cultivating close relationships through frequent
interaction. Each year, community members gather to attend this dinner
to further their relationships as well as to share information about
Ganoksin and its vast resources. Asked to describe what it is like to
be a part of the Orchid community, Charles Lewton-Brain, master
goldsmith and teacher, said, "There is a feeling of inclusiveness,
fairness and respect for others' opinions on the list. We've had
births, deaths and life-changing events shared in this community;
people care, remember past members, meet and write to those in trouble.
And many just watch and gain information and a sense of belonging to a
warm, friendly, accepting group. Some speak of family. I conceive of it
as a kind of think tank. It educates, in increasing languages through
translation engines, fulfilling its purpose of making goldsmiths' lives
easier worldwide."

Strongly supported by Rio Grande, the Orchid dinner has become a highly
anticipated event for Orchid enthusiasts and attendance continues to
grow. At this year's dinner, a silent auction will be held to raise
funds for maintaining the Ganoksin computer server where Orchid's
technical archives are stored. Some of the items donated for last
year's auction were a Bonny Doon hydraulic press, workshop tuitions and
a full collection of commemorative Orchid pins. New for this year's
dinner will be "Orchid Shares," a special table set aside for members'
postcards, brocures and catalogs. Attendees are encouraged to bring any
information they'd like to share with fellow Orchidians.

Register online for the dinner at http://www.ganoksin.com/events/. The
cost is $35 per person (early registration) or $45 per person (at the
door). For more information, call 800.738.1666 or visit the Ganoksin
website at http://www.ganoksin.com.
