Default Yarn for School Knitting Project

Does anyone know of a good source for free/discounted yarn & knitting
supplies for kids to use in a school knitting project?

These are destined to become charity items to be donated.

Any help much appreciated!

Abi

Nora told us about getting 20 pounds of yarn for just such a purpose,
didn't you, Nora? Abi, you might want to look in Google Groups for
Nora's posts on that.

Hi Abi,

Yes, it was me. You would have to write a letter to Coats and Clark on
official school letterhead saying why you wanted yarn and then just sit
back and wait and see if you receive any. One of my friends wrote just
a letter saying she does shawls and lapafghans for the nursing homes
and she was turned down. They told her they had so many requests that
they now want it on official letterhead and signed by someone there.
Others have sent pictures and got yarn so send me an email and I'll
give you the address. Doesn't hurt to try.

Hugs,

Nora

My pupils use to ask parents and grandparents for leftovers. Of course
it depends of how much you need, but we have got quite a lot.

You can use chopsticks for needles and or make them using wooden
dowel rods from the hardware store.

Very cheap and I've heard kids enjoy making their own - they can
personalize the end pieces (suggestion for these are modeling clay -
like for jewelry or wooden beads).
