Default Thanks Margie!!!!!

Margie,

The gallery I was going to in Geneva fell through AGAIN. I guess the
lady had to go to a wake which I can understand but she should've called
and told me not to come.

HOWEVER... we did show stuff to another manager there who was very nice.
She thought they might take a few pieces but most of it (according
to her) was for a younger crowd. I didn't particularly think my stuff
would fit in that well there, and she suggested we walk around and see
what other places were doing the Thursday night open thing and see if my
work fit in there.

So, we were walking around and DH saw a pottery shop he just HAD to go
into to add to the coffee cup collection (just what we need before
moving, right?). There they gave me a card for Goddess of Whimsy,
which Margie had recommended (I was all confused and hadn't remembered
to bring the address or anything). We went straight there. By that
time it was half an hour to closing but the owner was nice and said I
could get my stuff from the car and come and show her.
The new display case helped a LOT; I could bring stuff out quickly, all
more or less nicely displayed, and the boxes were easy to stack and
restack to look back and forth.
We were there until about 10 PM but it was worth it, apparently for both
(all) of us.

She ended up taking (OMG I just counted) 69 pieces on consignment!
It is a 60/40 % consignment but I had repriced my stuff so I wouldn't
loose money on a 50% wholesale. She said my prices were quite
reasonable. She was so nice!!
She is talking as if she thinks some of it will actually sell in time
for me to get a check June 10th. I am kind of wondering... but who
knows...Geneva is probably better situated for this kind of thing then
Genoa was.

DH is happy because 1) he got another coffee cup 2) he was justified for
getting the coffee cup because we found this store and 3) two of the
pieces she took were actually ones he made.

I can't believe it!

Thanks, Margie!

Hmmm...not very professional is she? Take that as a sign.

Well there you go! Good.

So, we were walking around and DH saw a pottery shop he just HAD to go

Oh what's one more cup to pack? LOL

There they gave me a card for Goddess of Whimsy,

Oooo...I'm getting all excited! Seems like it was meant to be,
doesn't it?

What???!!! This is excellent! Just in time for the summer tourist
season too. Wow!

It is a 60/40 % consignment but I had repriced my stuff so I wouldn't
loose money on a 50% wholesale. She said my prices were quite
reasonable. She was so nice!!

Told you she was nice. 60/40 consignment seems to be the standard in
our area so this good. My sister-in-law and her partner get the same
deal with their paper goods.

She is talking as if she thinks some of it will actually sell in time
for me to get a check June 10th. I am kind of wondering... but who
knows...Geneva is probably better situated for this kind of thing then

Sure you might get a check. We have a long weekend coming up and
that's probably the beginning of the "happy" season for that area.

DH is happy because 1) he got another coffee cup 2) he was justified for
getting the coffee cup because we found this store and 3) two of the
pieces she took were actually ones he made.

LOL
Sounds like a win/win situation! I'm so happy for you Marisa. Your
jewelry is wonderful and now you have a place to showcase it. Yea!!

Thanks, Margie!

No thanks needed, I just pointed you in the right direction, you and
jewelry did the rest. :=)

I can't wait to see your setup.

Did you get caught in that severe thunderstorm????

Told my SIL about your success and she suggested you talk to Melissa
about the "featured artist night". You could be one, if you wanted
to! They advertise the night, serve munchies and wine and customers
get to meet you. I think you'd invite who you want too. I'd come of
course!

Yup. I have an exclusive agreement (for a small radius, mostly Geneva, Batavia,
and some other town I didn't recognize) with Goddess of Whimsy. I feel a little
guilty because I talked to the other people first, but then the manager actually
suggested I try other stores, and in any case I hardly had any kind of deal with
them... and it wasn't me that called off either meeting.

*LOL* It's the CONCEPT of him still buying more junk when we're trying to get
rid of some! Albeit, the mug is BEAUTIFUL. This is a little pottery co-op and
they have amazing things. I can't understand how they can afford to sell for
the prices they do either.

There they gave me a card for Goddess of Whimsy,

I didn't even think of that! At the other shop I think I started in the fall.
Christmas time was the only time I had good sales there. But you are right.
Geneva must have a lot of tourists. (DH and I couldn't figure out how that
economy runs... three dog bakeries, countless little boutiques and pottery shops
and antique shops... we asked at the pottery and they said that there are a lot
of tourists who come in on bus trips etc.)

It is a 60/40 % consignment but I had repriced my stuff so I wouldn't
loose money on a 50% wholesale. She said my prices were quite

Are they the ones who make the hand-made paper books?

There was so much cool stuff in that shop. I didn't get to look much because
obviously I was busy. DH looked around and kept finding more neat things.
Luckily he didn't buy any (yet). I would like to make one sale first!! (He has
a habit of spending more then I make at craft fairs, buying coffee mugs and
other items of interest ).

She is talking as if she thinks some of it will actually sell in time

Oh, yeah! Cool!

I wish it wasn't so far away (ppl at work don't think it is but I do ). I
want to see what my display looks like. She said she does mix different
people's work sometimes, but since mine is so different from the rest it will
probably mostly be kept together. She is going to rearrange all of the cabinets
to fit my stuff. Really I cant' believe she took so much! And the really neat
thing was she seemed to like almost all of my different styles and took quite
varied pieces.

Yeah, but thanks anyway . I am SO unconfident that it is REALLY hard for me
to start up with any new place.
She recommended I try places in Naperville. I know there must be great places
in Hinsdale and other local towns. But it is SO hard for me to call a place up
or anything.

it was pretty pulled apart after last night! But I will rearrange. It is
good because I still didn't have room for a lot of my stuff.
It really is a nice setup.

It was raging while we were in the shop. It slowed down right around when we
left.
I am so glad it cooled the place off!

*L*

She didn't mention it.

She did say something some time in the night about having a 6 month trial period
to see how well the fit is but I don't understand what the difference is before
and after that period. Maybe she waits to mention stuff like this until after?
It all seemed pretty casual.

My SIL suggests shopping around in St. Charles too. I suspect she has

I think it's similar to Galena but small scale. Popular all year
round but mainly in the summer for those short road trips too.
Especially now with the gas rate hikes.

Are they the ones who make the hand-made paper books?

My SIL and her partner make the hand bound books and paper. I know
they've had their stuff there and probably still do.

There was so much cool stuff in that shop. I didn't get to look much because

she lives in Naperville.

There are places in Naperville and two bead shops that I know of! If
you want some names of shops, I'll ask my SIL. She has her paper
goods in at least one of them.

All will become clear as time goes by, I'm sure. I hope it's a long,

*L* I always get Geneva and St. Charles totally mixed up. I can't

probably not I guess.

"Down to Earth Pottery". 217 1/2 South Third Street.
It's in the basement of a building that seems to have several other cute
shops in it.

*LOL* whatever money he claims it is coming from I just don't like the
FEELING of adding up all of his purchases and finding out they were more
then what I made at the fair (of course I did pretty poorly at the
fairs...but this just made me feel worse!)

Yeah, all of the ladies at work think it's really close. We've actually
gone there for lunch + buying yarn a couple of times (well, they bought
yarn. I gawked at yarn...had no idea there were so many kinds)

Yeah, but thanks anyway . I am SO unconfident that it is REALLY hard for me
