The question arose about what to do. (I work in the travel industry now since the Best Quilt Shop in Boston closed down a few years ago.) A friend wants to go to the Yucatan, in Mexico. I was planning on staying home and quilting. I have 5 UFOs waiting to be completed, as well as a new bright colored quilt with the new Laurel Burch cat fabrics cut and ready for stitching. The trip is free, benefit from work. Quilts are waiting. Am I crazy for wanting to stay home and quilt, play with the new QI, and just relax, or go away? Votes, please? Wow, what a fun few days I've had! I finished 4 UFOs, made a whole new
quilt from start to finish. Also managed to make 4 quilted tote bags from left over quilt blocks. I had the Bernina and the Featherweight running at the same time. I've got pictures up here if you want a look: http://www.quilthorizon.com/new_arrivals.htm . I highly recomend making quilted quilting totes with left over blocks. They make up quick and easy and will make great gifts. Even though I don't post much, I do read most of the posts. I used the suggest for the Press and Seal on one of the quilts to do some oak leaves in the corners. It worked ok, but it DOES get staticy. Also, I got some silk thread to try quilting with. It's great stuff and does work, even though kind of pricy. So, yeah, there is a lot to be learned and used in this group. Dave |

Now wasn't that more fun than a trip to Mexico? Those tote bags look great.
Let's grab some, head down to Cabo and fill them up with cheap tourist trinkets. ;-) -- Wendy http://griffinsflight.com/Quilting/quilt1.htm de-fang email address to reply "Dave Daniels" wrote in message ups.com... Hi, Roberts,
The Beacon Hill Passage quilt is made with that Bubble Jet Set 2000. I was really into that last year. This was the last in a series of large scale photo quilts. I took the digital picture on one of my walks around Beacon Hill. I dropped the kitty in using my graphics program. I soaked the fabric in the BJS2K as per the insturctions. I then ironed freezer paper to the back and cut out around 16 sheets of it. I then fed the paper backed fabric through the printer, I think the setting was "tiled" to get the picture large like I wanted, poster sized. Stitched it together and quilted it. It was a lot of work, but it does work well. There are a few others on the site that were done the same way, as well as a memory quilt using kitty faces set into patchwork blocks. Dave |

Thanks! That's really amazing, although not too difficult technically. When
you mentioned photos, I thought of a Japanese quilt I once saw a photo of. The designer made one terrific quilt, photographed it, printed the photo on fabric, then cut the fabric up and made a different quilt. Your quilting is lovely, very nice texture! Hi, Ellen,
I don't use a pattern. I just cut a strip of fabric the width of the bag. Then I just stitch a few lines down to make the pockets. It was really simple. |
