Default Wooden boxes at Hallmark store

Last night I went into the local Hallmark store and saw a new
promotion...Hallmark has lovely wooden boxes with velvet lining for
$9.95 with the purchase of three cards. The top of the box has a space
with access to place an insert - and would be a lovely box with a piece
of needlework inserted!

(It appeared that the space allowed was the standard size of a photo,
but whether a 3-1/2" X 5" or a 4" X 6", I didn't note specifically -- so
go measure it for yourself first, don't quote me!)

Seemed a reasonable price for a nice wooden box. In my mind I'm already
starting to plan for next Christmas.

Thought I'd give you all a head's up to check your local stores. If you
look at www.hallmark.com, it's under special offers as the "keep and
remember" box.

I swear I posted a reply to this already, but it's apparently out lost
in cyberspace...
I've purchased a box or two for framing a photo in the lid before. I
always have trouble getting the needlework framed. I've managed, but
with the use of many words I shouldn't be uttering. Seems like there's
just not enough room for something thicker than a piece of paper, ie. my
needlework. Anyone else have this problem? Solutions? I haven't gone
this route in ages because of the troubles, instead getting boxes
advertised for needlework framing (since the frame part tends to be
designed with needlework thickness in mind, still leaving room for some
class/spacers).

I've had a similar experience. A jewelry box with a lid that can hold
a picture. I couldn't get a piece of cross stitch in it no matter how
I tried so I finally gave up. I haven't tried to put needlework in a
box lid since then and probably never will unless I make my own. The
boxes I've seen that are meant to frame needlework are way too
expensive for what they are, mass produced simple unlined wood boxes
with a plain frame hinged on as a lid. A box has to sing to me before
I buy it and those just don't.
