Default MQX, meeting, + purchase

Yesterday was a very full and fun day. The MQX show is in Manchester,
NH this weekend and I spent the whole day there, they had some beautiful
quilts. This year seems to be the year for embellishments as many of
the quilts had rhinestones and other glittery things. My favorite quilt
had a huge brown bear on it. If you get a chance to go, look for the
bear.

I must have reached SABLE (stash acquired beyond life expectancy) as I
wasn't even tempted to buy a single piece of material, not even a
fat-quarter. I did, however, succumb to a machine quilting frame. It's
a little guy called Easy Quilter 2. I got to play with it for quite a
while and ask a lot of questions and the price was right. It will easily
fit on one of my existing quilt tables. I'm really looking forward to
putting it together later this weekend. The only thing that could be a
problem is the length of the cord on my machine pedal. Someone
suggested that anyone comfortable with electricity could splice a longer
electrical wire onto it. I'm scared to ruin the pedal. Anyone out
there ever lengthen a foot pedal cord??

After the show we went out for fancy mocha coffees then off to our
monthly quilt guild meeting where we were treated to a trunk show by
Sally Collins. Her work is just incredible. I didn't sign up for her
workshop though, I don't think my eyes could take working with such itty
bitty pieces. After her show, we pigged out on meatballs and all sorts
of confections, then I won a yard of material in a raffle.

All in all a nice way to spend the day.

Denise

That sounds wonderful, Denise. I wish I had seen Sally Collins' trunk
show! I am heading to MQX in a few minutes with my husband. I'll look
for the bear quilt. I hope to buy a few little things but probably NOT
fabric. I'm more interested in some thread and fibers, (maybe dye
supplies), today.

All the best,

Renee

I asked DH about splicing your foot pedal cord. He says he's 'reasonably
certain' that this would be just fine - however - he urges you to check with
your SM dealer before you do it. Could be a problem that he just doesn't
know about. Also: if you are a bit concerned about trading in your SM one
day, it could devalue it. Maybe. I'm always suspicious about buying an SM
that's described as 'like new' , 'never used', pristine....whatever. Makes
me wonder, "why not and what's wrong with it?" Polly

I was there yesterday (Saturday) with my husband. That bear is
certainly magnificent. My favorite, though, was one that was in the
Armory. It looked to have started out as a panel print of a garden
through a wrought iron gate. The quilter took it and did an outstanding
job with a border, beaded embellishments and quilting. It was amazing.
The notes on the card said that it took her two years to complete.
I'm not surprised. What does surprise me is that I usually don't
consider art quilts to be my favorite. Hmmm...
