Default trying my hand at knitting gloves!

Good morning all,

I thought I'd try my hand at knitting my 2 DDs some gloves ( they don't like
any of the colors
available at the stores which is fine with me - got enough yarn around ,
that they both found
colors they liked and that went with their new coats!) I'm using "The
Knitter's Handy Book
of Patterns" by Ann Budd. Working on pinky of first glove and so far, so
good . It's a good thing
that my 12-yr old DD has same size hand I do, at least I can try them on
without her being home.

Wish I had batteries for my digital camera ( got it for Christmas couple
years ago from DH, you 'd think
he'd throw in spare batteries, but no!! LOL) I'd take pictures! Of course,
with the weather
staying like it is here in S. Indiana (near Louisville) it's supposed to get
to 77F today..this
is not Nov. weather.

now back to knitting, did enough laundry yesterday to last the family thru
the weekend!

Default trying my hand at knitting gloves!

Hi Donna,

Welcome and have fun with the gloves. I tried knitting a pair a few
years ago and I still get a look laugh everytime I look at them.

In upstate NY it's like the middle of April, so unusal for this time of
year, but I'll take it, beats shoveling snow.

Hugs,

Nora

Hi Noreen,

Yours must have turned out like mine, LOL. I'll stick to knitting
mittens.

Nora

Thanks for the support! haven't got any further
on the gloves than what I wrote this morning, been
playing Mah-jong on the computer! I'll probably go back to mittens after
this! LOL but since the 12-year
old won't wear mittens, I'll tough this out!.

Woohoo, Donna, good for you! I have that book, but never realized that
there was a glove pattern in it. I should have a look.

Funny how preteens and teens won't wear something because they don't think
they are cool looking, or because they think it makes them look like a
little kid. My older brother who works on a farm with horses all the time
in Saskatchewan (he's a ferrier... fancy name for blacksmith for those who
don't know what a ferrier is) actually asked my Mom one year if she was
planning on sending him a Christmas parcel like she always did, to PLEASE
put in a pair of mittens... or at the very least fingerless gloves with the
mitten flap to pull over the fingers when he didn't need to do anything with
his fingers. He said (and I totally agree) that mittens keep your fingers
and hands warmer because they are all inside the same piece of material
rather than individually wrapped... therefore the body heat from the rest of
your hand keeps them warmer. ) I wear mittens all through the
winter.... and my son Matthew (who is 24) wears the fingerless gloves with
the mitten flap when he's shovelling the snow from the laneway.

Gemini
- good luck with your gloves though... I've never made any. I do want to
make a pair of two needle mittens, or crocheted mittens though. )

Hi,

Thanks for that website, I like the gloves right above the fingers, may
have to order a pair.

Hugs,

Nora

My granddaughters like gloves and I have knit them for the two older
ones and for my daughter (she complained when I had made them for the
girls and none for her). My older DGD has the same size hands that I
do and my daughter's are close -- you are right that it helps a lot. I
am making a pair now for my husband and he is pretty patient about
trying them on for me. I have one of his done but have a ways to go
yet on the second. They aren't hard but take a little more time than
mittens. I am not likely to do them for the little one, though, as the
thought of trying to do the pinky for hers slows me down. She is a
toddler and it is going to be mittens for a while!
