Default newbie - needs help with resources and online learning

Hi,
My name is kathy. I am a 35 mother of Three pre-med student about to
enter medschool in the fall.

USing the artistic side of my brain is all that saves me from insanity
while persuing my dream of being a Dr. - grin.

I have little to no experience with jewelry making. I have done some
seed beading while in my teens. I was priveleged to stay on a
reservation in Nevada as a guest for a few months and learned some
there. Haven't done it in years though.

I am planning on making some purchases next week (from Fire mountain
unless some place better is found.

I have ideas in my head for some pieces that involve silver wire
semi-precious stones. Other ideas that involve seed beads with
semiprecious dripping from them.

I like the seed beads because i can put them in a small tackle box and
transport.

I like the semi-precious because of the texture.

I eventully (read when i can afford to- wink)want to use 14 and 10 kt
Gold wire to do some similar work.

I'd like to braid the wire hammer and flatten in places and in others
have the beads.

Anyone have any advice on places to purchase, tools, and online
learning resources?

Thanks!

Kathy

Use gold fill wire. You can afford it NOW and you will never know the
difference.

Hi, glad to see you found your way here Kathy, we met briefly on rcj. I
recommend Bead and Button magazine. I learned a great deal from it when I
first started. Beading classes were few and far between back in Perth,
Australia (I now live in New Zealand) and I had rely on that, on-line
sources and lots of help from the wonderful folk on this group.

ah yes -- know THAT FEELING

I'm using mine to minimize the insanity of law school - but I graduate this
spring ...

I once considered Med School - I was a paramedic at one time --
but my kids were young and I knew it would take me away from them more than I
was willing to sacrifice.
I admire you for your time, effort, and sacrifice to become a doctor.

as for purchases of beads -- I'd recommend
www.whimbeads.com
www.caravanbeads.com

for findings, wire, tools and that
Rio Grande is my main source.

(get the catalog - their website is not very useful)

for lampwork - see my sig line ! LOL
