Default Help with Wood Lawn Signs

Hi. I would like to make a lawn wood sign like I have sign at boutiques. The
signs may be for sports fans of certain football or baseball teams or
holiday related. The sign post is 48" tall, 2 1/2" wide, 1" deep. The other
pieces of wood that are screwed into the sign are 14" wide, 3" tall.

What would be the best wood to use for this project (however, not very
expensive!)? What type of paint would hold up the best in mild winter
weather?

Thanks in advance!
LL

I have a lawn greeting business where my signs are made from 8 ft tall
plywood. (super cheap at around $15 per sheet) I get the 5/8 in
thickness, but you can get larger if you wish. As far as paint goes,
all my signs get painted with severe weather exterior paint. The
color choices are quite abundant and doesn't cost extra to mix. I
figure if you can paint this on the side of a house and it holds up
for several years, then it is good enough for my signs.

If you need any help, just drop me a line in here or visit my site.

I've painted a lot of signs. The biggest problem is holding up
against the sun. Those sun rays will Crack and fade paint fast!!!! Be
sure to find a good polyurethane to apply over your work (But sometimes
that don't even work)
Good Luck
Nancy
