Debra, thanks for posting this thread! Not long ago I had wondered
about using a quilting frame to help me baste and keep me off the floor,
lol! At this time I'm not so concerned about one of those
"guns"...instead, just wanting more comfort when basting, maybe the
quick gun will come later! I was all ears and enjoyed everyones
reply... I could just kick myself for not buying a quilting frame at a
garage sale a few years ago, but at the time I really didnt have the
storage space and had not yet really begun my quilting adventures... and
to this day that bargain still haunts me, lol!

Thanks to all!

Ann

Why not attach/tack/staple a strip of heavy fabric/denim/tarpon/double

fabric to it? I'm sure that that is how it was on my Grandma's frame.
Carpet tacks were used to attach the heavy fabric to the boards/rails.

Right, not everyone knows what carpet tacks are! Guess I'm showing my
age!

I've put enough canvases into needlework frames using the cloth method
to know I don't want to do the same thing with a quilt. It would take
longer to get it straight than when simply tacking the backing fabric
directly to the frame.

I think carpet tacks are still in use, unless they have changed, so
maybe you are only a few days old. On the other hand, I haven't a
clue what kind of fabric tarpon is and can only guess it is a fabric
with a thickness somewhere between denim and trigger.

(I bet my spell checker is going to want to change the spelling of
tarpon.)
