Acrylic Paints

Hello,

I have been painting for some time with acrylic paints like Folk Art, Americana and Ceramcoat on wood. But now I want to paint canvas. Is there pros and cons for using the decorative art paints? Or would it be better to use Liquidtex or Winson and Newton type paints?

Hi Ridley,

I use a combination of both as well as specialty acrylics from Golden. I've
never found any real difference between the types. Even house paint is
acrylic and I sometimes use that to coat my canvases first.

I would argue that acrylic paints formulated for
use by artists is going to be more satisfying to
use for PAINTINGS than is the stuff formulated for
craft work. Serious artists don't use paints made
for painting houses - or craft objects - when
creating paintings.

If you are only a hobbiest, and don't take the
longevity of your work seriously, then you can
use anything you please.
