Default Is that infamous poncho really attractive?!

I think it's wonderful that Martha wore the gal's gift poncho in
public, but it doesn't seem to me like a garment she would ordinarily
wear. Am I the only one who thought it was ugly? Martha seems to be the
only one who has not come out with a pattern so far. Also, none of the
pictures I've seen of her since have shown her wearing the thing.
Well, each to her own and a lot of people seem to be enjoying this
"rage". But I have to admit, I'm not fond of poncho's of any kind.

I share your opinion. It=B4s really UGLY.
I made such a similar poncho before Martha=B4s story and hated every=20
single minute working on it. It was so booooring...
It=B4s a little bit as the story of Samantha... something... infamous=20
shawl. Everyone wanted one, even if it looked awful and cheap.
Anyway, since Martha is one of the lucky people looking good even is a=20
sack with a hole for the head and two for the arms (good for her!), the=20
ugly poncho got a stylish model and hence the success.
I think it was a very accurate marketing stategy on her part. Also the=20
color, grey (usch!) was very appropriate for the situation and taking=20
people on her side. As sonn as I saw the scene on CNN I tought: ok,=20
let=B4s the poncho story begin LOL
Anyway, since many people enjoys making it, it=B4s a "good thing", Martha=
=20
or not :-)

Bye,

Anna Maria

I don't like it, either, Hazel.

Oh it isn't that bad!

When I first saw it on TV, it looked bluer and it did go well with her
skinny jeans in that light. It draped well when you saw a full body shot
in motion. After that, the still shots were a little disappointing.

I know better than to think it would look good on me, though. Even when I
was at my skinniest in college, I was still too short to look good in most
ponchos. Now I'd look like an old sofa with a blanket thrown over it to
hide the stains!

Okay, I didn't see it on her on tv and I guess it's the yarn color more
than anything. In the photo's I saw it was the color of an old grease
rag. As for the downloads of the pattern... I did that, too, just out
of curiosity but without any intention of making it. Mostly I wanted a
look at the edging. I use crocheted edgings on a lot of my woven things
and am always on the lookout for new patterns. Well, I just wondered
if so many people really did find it attractive or of it was just the
celebrity thing.

I usually get my news from NPR radio every morning, so I didn't see
Martha's "coming out". But I just found my old Newsweek in the
recycling pile, and I am wondering about that poncho. There is a
photo of her and her daughter and others. Looks like she is leaving
the prison, possibly. No make-up, hair not set (nor even brushed).
She has on a dark olive pantsuit, and then it looks like a shawl or a
wide scarf draped over her shoulders. It is grey with horizontal
stripes on it of the same color, i.e. two different stitches. Is
that the poncho everyone is talking about? It is definitely not a
poncho (front is open) in that photo. Just curious.

Kira,

My local news website just happened to have this on the front page this
morning. There is a picture in the article (which happens to be about how
people always want to buy what the stars are wearing):
