Default Turning suit jacket into bolero style jacket

Hi there people...I am completely new to this website and to sewing!!! I
hope you guys will be able to help me. I am thinking about converting a
normal suit jacket that I have into a bolero style jacket for a madonna
concert. I am going to dress up as madge when she was in her 80's era..she
wears a very famous jacket (for madonna fans), a black bolero jacket with
a dollar bill, gols and red pyramid on the back from the film desperately
seeking susan which starred madonna. The problem I have is, I have only
done things like curtains, cushions etc..you know the easy stuff and I am
quite nervous. Does anyone know where I can get a pattern or instructions
on how to do this or any help at all that will help me to achieve this
idea.....I want to look great at the concert, failing that...a complete
idiot!!! hehehe.
Thanks in advance for your time, Regards,
Emilie x

Dear Emily,

To do this right, you need to take the jacket completely apart, and
press the pieces. Then find a bolero jacket pattern that you like and
see if you can fit the pieces onto the pieces you took apart.
Otherwise, you might have to start from scratch. If you don't have
any tailoring experience, you might want to get some books from the
library on tailoring, so that you know what's involved. It's more
complicated than curtains. You need good pressing equipment, know how
to use interlinings and linings, and decide how you're going to do the
design work on the back. Do you have friends who sew? Perhaps you
can get help. Or find a bolero jacket in RTW and have the design
appliqued or embroidered on the back. This would not be my idea for a
first sewing project.

Hallo Emilie , i was once invited to a Theme dress up party , i lacked
the money / to have a `proper` dress up , and i also thought that
having for one time only , was a bit out of my style ,, thus i made
myself a Flannel Version of Expected dress up ,
Everybody liked my `original interpretation , and i wore it for years
as a daily skirt +vest ,,,, but now to your problem , why not see if
you can rent such a jacket ???

hi emily-
i once made a similar jacket---what i did, because it was just a
costume, i used felt. it was easy, (heck, i don't even think i hemmed
the sleaves and such...since felt does not frey) and then you could
either purchase premade appliques for the back or make them out of
felt or other material.
