"Come, little leaves..."
Come, Little Leaves
by George Cooper "Come, little leaves," said the wind one day. "Come over the meadows with me and play; Put on your dresses of red and gold, For summer is gone and the days grow cold Soon as the leaves heard the wind's loud call, Down they came fluttering, one and all; Over the brown fields they danced and flew, Singing the sweet little song they knew. "Cricket, good-bye, we've been friends so long, Little brook, sing us your farewell song; Say you're sorry to see us go; Ah! you will miss us, right well we know. "Dear little lambs, in your fleecy fold, Mother will keep you from harm and cold; Fondly we've watched you in vale and glade, Say, will you dream of our loving shade?" Dancing and whirling the little leaves went, Winter had called them, and they were content, Soon fast asleep in their earthy beds, The snow laid a soft mantle over their heads. ~~~~~~ Thought of this while changing the quilts, the decorations, the calendar pages... and setting up the lights for Christmas. Cheers! Ragmop/Sandy |

"Come, little leaves..."
We have a pecan grove (just for shade and to entertain the squirrels), some
fruit trees, about a dozen magnificent oaks (some toss all their leaves, some change sets dropping one and growing another at the same time). I strongly suspect that Mr. Esther would invite Mr. Cooper to participate in the survival thereof and see if he still thinks there's a charm to dancing leaves. There's also an elderly mimosa who tosses beards, seed pods, and fans of leaves with abandon. She's become confused in her old age and quite often will grow a new set of leaves when everybody else knows winter is here. Ah my, but she is a masterpiece. Tell Mr. Cooper he won't even have to bring his own rake; gloves would be a good idea. Polly "Bronnie" wrote in message ... "Come, little leaves..."
Oh, this is beautiful! I can just picture it translated into a quilt!
We are under a severe wind warning tonight, winds expected around 40 to 70 miles per hour for the next 36 hrs. Thank you *so* much for posting it Sandy. Now I have it back, I won't lose it again. -- Trish Brown {|:-} Newcastle, NSW, Australia |

"Come, little leaves..."
Howdy!
Isn't it a lovely little poem? W/ winds rushing thru' at 40 mph this weekend, the little leaves didn't stay long. During a lull, I walked the 'hood, couldn't resist bringing home a handful of color from the neighbors. We have Bradford pear, red oak, white oak, burr oak, cedar elm, red-tip photinia, crape myrtle & althea (hibiscus) all releasing their treasures, but still I had to have more. I keep a compost pile going year-round; these leaves give back. ;-) Enjoy your spring & summer, Trish! "Come, little leaves..."
Thanks to you Sandy. That is nice. If you put a pool in it seems to act
as a big leaf catcher. I so miss our big cottonwood trees we took out but I don't miss the millions of leaves to rake up! I have planted a zillion trees here. Messy winner is the mimosa but she is the prettiest too. Taria "Sandy E" wrote in message ... Howdy! Isn't it a lovely little poem?
