Default HELP! Looking for 4-way stretch fabric

Hi!

My name is John Hansen. I make custom leather riding apparell for
English Equestrians. I have a website, ring-ready.com that shows some
of my work, but it is sadly a year old. I have made many improvements
to my products, but I am needing four-way stretch fabric to make my half
chaps perfect.

I have looked all over the internet for textile manufacturers of the
stuff, and I have called every craft and fabric store I can find, but
only the flimsy stuff like spandex is available at the best of stores.

PLEASE help me find an outlet for this material. I know it is made, as
other chap companies use it in their products, and I have seen it used
in other applications. I need stronger stuff, like 1/8 or 3/16ths
thick, not the thin stuff.

If you have information on this kind of product or where I can get some,
please respond to .

THANK YOU for your help.

John the Braider

Could you possibly be looking for neoprene, the sort of thing diving
suits are made from?

Hi Kay Lancaster,

Thank you for replying to my post.

No, I know what neoprene is and what many of it's applications are. I
am looking specifically for four-way-stretch elastic, the kind used on
Ariat riding chaps. This insures a tight but expandable fit for the
"growing years" of a child.

"Ariat" is a product of Italy, and I have a pair of riding half chaps.
I'm sure it's a textile fabric available somewhere.....

Thanks again,

John

Hi John,
I use a VERY heavyweight lycra for sewing boys/mens skating
pants....caled Super at LycraHouse in NY. I just checked their
website at www.lycrahouse.com the other day and it appears to be
undergoing renovations.

John, I have altered riding chaps, so I think I know the
heavyweight, sturdy fabric you are looking for. I have not come across
any suppliers in my explorations of online textile providers, but they
seldom list everything they stock, so here are a couple of likely places
for you to try.
Northern Va. and Maryland are rife with horse farms and riding
schools, and the local gentry still ride to hounds, so I would look to
GStreetFabrics, a local (3 store) chain which carries exceptional
fabrics. These folks know the value of good service. If they do not
carry the riding fabrics, they may be able to refer you to a supplier. I
have not been able to access an online site for them, but will add it
has been some time since I tried them online.
11854 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Md.
te# 301- 231-8998
(Note: phone # taken off of and old class schedule)
---
Spandex House. located New York City,
te# 212-354-6711. My notes say 'no online presence; spandex/stretch
goodies all types.'
---
Another interesting site:
www.fabrics.net: an info, resource, and referral network
You may post wholesale 'fabrics wanted' requests, and suppliers
contact you. A site worth exploring. HTH.
