Default Blue/Red Scrap Quilt Ideas?

It's time to make a quilt for an elderly friend of mine whose DH died this
year. His favorite color was blue; hers is red. I want it to be scrappy,
probably large lap size, and I think she's into muted colors. Since red and
blue tend to be the same shade (light/dark--is that the right word?) what
other color (s) would you crafty people throw in the mix, and what patterns
come to your minds?

Y'all's brains are so much more inspiring than mine! TIA!

Black and/or white. I love that look.

How about a butterscotch gold? I think that would be a
delightful contrast to blue and red. It would be a
classic triad color scheme. A tiny (very tiny) bit of
cream on cream would be a good accent to that trio.

I'd collect as many different reds and blues as I could find, perhaps
adding a bit of cream for interest. The variety of shades of red and
blue is enormous, and a scrappy quilt in those colors can be wonderful
without the addition of anything else! JMHO.

Oh that sounds nice! And I could stretch the colors of the browns to get to
Pat's butterscotch gold. (If the gold is butterscotch, does that make the
brown chocolate? Wait! Am I making a quilt or desert??)

For me, the line often blurs!

Actually, you can use various values of reds and blues to get the
contrast you need. And, except for very dark shades/tones of red and
blue they do read differently because one is a cool color and one is a
warm color.

But I also like to add yellows/golds, or cream or tan or the ever
popular white to red and blue.

I did a jewel box with dark reds and blues. I used a light blue for the
background. I liked the results.
