Default Koolatron Oven for Polymer Clay?

Hi everyone. I am not sure if this has been asked before or not, but I am looking for a portable oven to use outside in baking polymer clay. I know that there are issues with uneven heating in some ovens and saw this ad for a Koolatron which is on sale at Target. Has anyone tried this unit? If not, what ovens do you all suggest?

Thanks!

Shawn

I don't know anything about baking outside, never tried it. I use a
Black and Decker I picked up at a hardware store for about $50. It's
really good at maintaining the temperature (I check it every couple of
weeks with an oven thermometer).

I'm actually interested in getting something a little bit bigger so I
can do more at once, though.

Cheers,
Carla

I might just go that route. I am not sure about the Koolatron since it uses
infra red, convection and conduction. I am afraid it might be too much for
the clay and will either melt or burn it. Here is the link:

Thanks,

I decided to get an Oster. The infra red cooking was a concern. Too much
like microwaving.

I have a good friend who purchased one of these for actual cooking. He too
has a small apartment and doesn't want to heat it up in the summer with
using his oven to cook. Well I took my thermomter over there and we tested
it. His overall food prep experience with the oven was just lovely...
(remove tongue from cheek) Lovely if you like burnt chicken with raw insides
and similar such culinary debacles.

We popped the oven thermometer in it and it varied WILDLY in temperature
over the 30 minutes we tested it. It would be okay if the temp was just off
but constant. That is something for which one can adjust. This thing shot up
and down at least 40 degrees from the target temp on an irregular cycle
going up and down a total of 7 times after the initial warm up period. I
think you would be better off with a jiffy bake oven...

Thanks for the information. I decided to go with an Oster. The Koolatron
was a good buy, but since the original price was over a hundred dollars, it
seemed fishy.

Thanks for confirming that it wouldn't work for clay.
