Hahahahaha

I used my 40% off coupon at Michael's today to buy The Knit Stitch by Sally
Melville..... I know this book has been out for a while, but I LOVE it!

I had heard of the Einstein Coat, and that has gone into my WIM's
Love the Baby Arnold coat - I have a pregnant step daughter, and am thinking
I'll make it for the baby
Love the Flat Top Hat & mitts.

I have the book full of sticky notes.......

My daughter gave me a gift card for Christmas for the local bookstore and I
picked up A Gathering of Lace by Meg Swansen. It too is fully of coloured
sticky notes. I don't have enough time left in my life to knit all this
stuff, but I'm going to give it a try (laugh)

I love looking through these books and finding so many good patterns!!

My copies of that one and The Purl Stitch both are coated with sticky
notes. I also have the third volume, on color knitting, but have little
intention of making anything from it. I just don't like color knitting
unless it's self-striping or self-patterning yarn. Making my sister a
knock-off of Princess Diana's black sheep sweater was more than enough
to make me hate intarsia. All those bobbins...

I've had this one for quite some time. I made myself the lace shrug to
wear at my sister's wedding reception; I was in the wedding party, and I
wanted something other than the wrap to wear with the sleeveless dress
(I hate the way I look in sleeveless, and this had spaghetti straps
which look even worse on me). Got tons of compliments on it. I still
want to make some of the shawls in it, but those will wait a bit longer.
The book isn't going anywhere :-)

I love looking through these books and finding so many good patterns!!

They're great fun. I just picked up Weekend Knitting by Melanie Falick,
and Last-Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson. Lots of fun and quick
stuff in both books. I already have the yarn picked out for two
pullovers and several pair of mittens/gloves g

Heh Heh! I got Handknit Holidays by Melanie Falick for Christmas.
And thanks to the great customer appreciation coupon I got from the
LYS, I went down and got 250 Creative Knitting stitches, Harmony's 450
Knitting Stitches AND Harmony's 220 Aran Stitches. The coupon was so
good that 2 of these books were essentially free for moi! I still
have a few other books on my wish list, but I'm getting there. Tops is
that new book on Victorian Lace Knitting, love the white capelet!

Ha-ha back at you, I've had The Knit Stitch for a few years but probably
didn't get as a good a deal as you did. I bought it, not so much for the
patterns, but because I think her books are very well written and have
wanted it mostly for reference. Although I have not made any thing using
the patterns as written, I did used the Lots-of-choices Top as the basis for
a vest. One thing I eliminated were the buttons down the back which I think
would not be comfortable.

Have fun with your new books. Beware if you make the Einstein coat, I have
read comments elsewhere that it does grow lengthwise.

Yes, I had heard that, so would try to adjust accordingly. I have so many
WIM's on the list, I'm not sure when I'd get to it, but it's fun looking
;).

I also read about adjusting for the amount of fabric under the arms.

In former years i even ordered some books, but now prices seem horrid
to me, + post,,,,
My rule was , to buy books that have stiches or ideas ,,, not specific
only a pattern [or more] , for this i have mags , and i really try to
hold on to them ,,, they renovate and give more new ideas and opinions
over the knitting ,,,

Over knitted coats [ connecting to the Einstein comments , ,
Several years ago i knitted myself a [ rather heavy] dress from hand
spun wool , and added a long sweater/coat ,,, with time i bulked a bit
and it din`t fit in front as it was made in one piece , decided the
best thing would Crochet [ with matching wool 2 triangles [ wide side
downwards, that will make the front panels more suited to my body ,,
the Coat was knitted from side to side ,,, thus no unwanted
lengthening happened ,,
Coats and skirts are better knitted on the side , to my experience .
