Who was making fun of anyone? This is a long running legpull/discussion -
it`s been going on for YEARS!

Licking your floss, as well as using a needle threader, is a matter of

choice.
Some say that it can cause damage to a fabric sometimes in the future.

Some say
it won't. No one can "prove" it, either way. So I think each and every

person
should decide what they want to do without anyone making fun of them.

It is, yes, but don't let that stop you. My mother and I both took
the same class last year at Hilton Head (mostly with her prompting, I
must admit), and liked it so much we have continued forward. I have
to admit, I was a bit leery about spending so much just to learn a
new technique, especially when I hate crewel work (which I thought
Japanese Embroidery was supposed to be like), but I found it to be a
nice challange.

Will I become an expert in it? Highly unlikely, it is too wrapped in
"do it this way only" rules, but I like the patterns and it sure has
helped my regular stitching.

So just get some thread and start playing. Try to twist some threads
(I liken it to making extreamly fine rope), try out some satin, stem,
and brick stiches to see how it works, and have fun! Just remember,
keep your hands clean and no Floss Licking! VBG

I'm gonna chew on this a bit. Thanks, Fran. I may still get some
threads - your chart helped a lot. I may still get the book. I'll let
ya know if I get something. This is a huge step. grin

Gripit Plus has a relatively inexpensive SLATE FRAME which you stand
on to get very super drum tight (it is very robust) it costs about
$60.
