Crochet cotton -UK suppliers
Hi Peeps,
Just a quick question. Now I've discovered crochet I want to try some different thicknesses of thread/yarn, especially the thinner ones. Size 20 seems to be quite common and I've found some white size 40 in Hobbycraft but I'm looking for somewhere that does a wider, I can't find 30 or 50 anywhere! Is it right to say size? Oh well, I'm sure the crocheters know what I mean! Does anyone have any good suppliers in the UK? Online ones are OK. I'm off to work now, so please don't think I'm ignoring you if I don't get back to this thread for a while :-) TIA Millie |

Hi there Millie, as a fellow UK crocheter, tatter, cro-tatter etc I've found
the same problem. I've bought crochet cotton from places like John Lewis and C&H Fabrics but they have a very limited shade/size selection. On the web you could try http://www.tatting.co.uk/threads.htm Lyn Morton's website for finer multicoloured and beautiful threads, some very fine. Or you could try http://www.kcgtrading.com/catalogue.htm for a good selection of various thin and thicker thread/yarns. They have a good colour selection, but you do have to trust their descriptions of the colours. Personally I've never been disappointed, but I am quite easy to please, having discovered that it's hard to find supplies. The other thing to do is to go to one of the big shows (I go to Alexandra Palace in October to the Knitting and Stitching show) where you'll find yarns/threads you can ogle, touch and drool over. (But if you're going to drool please let me know when you're going to be there and I'll go after you: wet crochet thread's a bit of a turnoff!!) I've never been to anything like that but I'll give it some serious thought. It's not too far from here, so maybe I can treat my Mum to a day out. |

Very good service. Get in there quick if you want Flora #50 as a lot of the colours are being discontinued (they told me they have a quite a bit in stock, though). -- Judy in UK Remove NOSPAM to reply |

Perhaps we can arrange to go on the same day (I usually go with a friend on
the Saturday: can't have time off work in October: too much flu vaccine in the fridge!!) and meet up for lunch or something. It's well worth a visit if only to see what you really can't afford!! -- Love Christine in Kent, Garden of England "Millie" wrote in message ... I came across http://www.threadsite.co.uk last night, so I've ordered a couple of balls from them just to see what they're like. |

Hi Millie I get all of my finer yarns from www.fairfieldyarns.co.uk (NAYY). I tend to go for luxury yarns, but have bought some cotton there very cheaply. When i went last week they had some lovely linen, linen & silk and totally gorgeous schappe silk. It is mostly sold on the cone per 100gs. HTH Sarah |
