I really enjoyed the thread of 'words of the day' and was sorry to see it
stop so in an effort to start it again , I'd like to make a contribution.

Ok From Word A Day

A.Word.A.Day--iatric
Pronunciation RealAudio

iatric (eye-A-trik) adjective

Relating to medicine or a physician.

[From Greek iatrikos (medical), from iatros (physician), from iasthai (to
heal).]

And, in line with a recent thread, iatrogenic (eye-ah-tro-jen-ik) -- iatrogenic
illnesses are those *caused* by a physician or medication.

Sentence:
When I began blacking out every morning immediately after starting the new
prescription, it was obvious it had an iatrogenic cause.

My most favorite word: ameliorate: to make or become better, improve.

Sentence: Some schools of thought argue that one way to combat terrorism
is to ameliorate the economic and political situation of those who might
engage in terrorist activities.

Antonym:
exacerbate: to make worse

Sentence:
Lifting weights will exacerbate your wrist pain; you should restrict your
exercise to walking or running, which don't use your hands.

I'm also quite fond of egregious: outstandingly bad.

Sentence: "A" papers are carefully proofread and free of egregious errors.
