Hi Sharon,
Thanks for the welcome back! Just for you =) I uploaded pics into webshots. My mom is fair skinned and people literally stepped backward when she introduced me to them at her Christmas choir performance as I announced, "Yeah, I'm brown!" Hee hee. I don't know if I'm beautiful, but I'm in the webshot album along with the kids: http://community.webshots.com/user/joyjane Have fun perusing! A Joy in Hawaii "Sharon Harper" wrote in message ... I'm a 34 year old Filipino/Native Hawaiian/Japanese/Cherokee/Welsh/Portuguese (wow, yeah?!) woman that lives in Holualoa, HI (a part of Kona, HI) on a coffee farm (no, I don't have to pick it but you can find me sneaking a few coffee cherries to suck on for a quick pick me up, hee hee). I have three kidlets DD1 4 y.o.(almost 5), DD2 3 y.o. and DS1 20 months old. I'm working on getting my D(arn)H to agree to divorce so that I don't have to pay outrageous attorney fees. It's been a rough year for me all around with these ongoing marital problems and then my dad past away on November 18, just about a month and a half ago. I've gotten back to piecing but somehow I just can't get the machine quilting thing going again. I do love to hand quilt, though. I started quilting Hawaiian quilts and even had a job as a quilt demonstrator in Waikiki around 3 years ago which was really fun. I don't have any of the quilts I completed while active on RCTQ doing our monthly challenges with the late Sue and I've lost the pictures of them that were on Webshots. Oh well, I'll get them back someday, I hope. RCTQers have been a great support to me and HUGged me and my kids 4 times over and blessed me with more than I could imagine. At the moment, I am totally loving batiks and am planning on entering the Kona Coffee Quilt Contest in June using these batiks and hand dyed fabrics from Mardi. Most of my day is spent as a case manager for the severely and persistently mentally ill and evenings are with my 3 kidlets. Very little time to do quilty things these days...besides read RCTQ posts to keep me sane =). So if you're new, welcome. If you've been around, I guess I'm back *grin*. A Joy in Hawaii |

Oooh thanks Joy! I can see where your kids get their cuteness from! They
are adorable. Oh and the thing with Lexi's smile (last photo)? Don't worry - Maddy does that sometimes. This is me, Kate, posting as Kate XXXXXX. I'm 48, have been sewing garments since I was 7, and I have a 10 YO son and a husband of 22 years. I'm gregarious, chatty, nosy, and cheeky, all at once! I am teaching my son to quilt. Some of my sewing projects and other stuff can be seen on my web site. I sew as a professional dressmaker after teaching English language and literature, and find brides easier to work with than 17 YO refusniks who don't want to learn about Shakespeare! I don't sell anything through my site, so it's quite safe for you to wander through. I like making historical costumes and wedding stuff. I also like tailoring. I've been quilting for about 3 years. The first one I did seriously was full of triangles! Well, little bias cut seams in nice well behaved cotton are a doddle compared with bias cut poly bridal satin and velvet! What a nice idea, Wendy!
I am Pat, posting as Patti (because there are several of us 'Patrician' folks!). My sig. of "on the hill" comes from the fact that we live on a ridge between the two highest points in Shropshire, UK - a very beautiful area. Married for coming up to 25 years (I'm a lot older than that sounds, though, as I married late g). We have no children, but have four indoor cats; plus rabbits and guinea pigs who have their own house - it's a bit too nice to be called a shed! - in the garden. I piece and quilt by machine; though I don't mind hand stitching, and, if I appliqué, then it is almost always by hand. I have been quilting for eleven years or so? and it has taken over my life. I am now retired, but have been a teacher, university administrator and garden designer in my time. .. Hi All! I'm Shirley and I live in Benton TN. I'm married to the most
wonderful man in the world and we just celebrated our 25th anniversary. We have no kids but we have 2 cute little QI Cockatiels called Sunshine and Sonny Bob. I've been sewing since I was about 8 years old but only quilting for about 6 years. I'm probably considered an intermediate piecer and I usually send the larger quilts out to be quilted. I just purchased a used HQ 16 and frame that should arrive in a week so from now on I'll be doing my own machine quilting. I never did learn to hand quilt but I've always wanted to. I do most of my quilting in the summer and fall since I run a small income tax business that keeps me tied up from January to April each year. I found RCTQ about 8 or 9 months ago and I've learned so much since then from the people on the group. To all the newbies out there, welcome! You're gonna love it here. It was so interesting reading about you all! I would have loved to respond
to everyone who wrote so far. I'm an old timer here although not a frequent participant. I'm a professional quilter who loves to help newbies by directing them to my website where there are loads of hints and instructions. I've been blessed by being married to my DH for 29 years. (2nd marriage for both). Together we have 11 grandchildren and in the past 3 years have been the proud great grandparents of Erin and Evan. I've also been the proud recipient of a hug quilt from this group when health problems were getting me down. Still have probs and bring out that quilt when I'm really low! To those that know me (there are still a few old timers here) I'm still on oxygen. Guess I'll never get rid of the machine/tanks. Haven't quilted in 2 years and feel I'm burned out after so many years of doing "my thing". Keep busy by keeping a web site for my quilt guild, my own website, and now a graphics website for my art work on the computer. So welcome Newbies and hi Old Timers! -- Rita http://ritasquilts.com "frood" wrote in message news As newbies come and introduce themselves, we all say "hi" back to them. One of my good friends and co-teachers is a "queen" for another two months in a SCA region. She keeps the lunch table entertained with her stories and travels. The Queen of Ansteorra! Very nice! We see that many have not answered the roll call. For those of you reluctant
to participate, I will be happy to tell all I know about you, may even take editorial license and embellish a little. It's your choice. It is also noted that some of you are waay too modest. The scary part is Joy saying she reads here to stay sane. So do I, Joy. Gators are fine watchdogs but they're not much for company. Polly "Michelle in Gander" wrote in message ... Ok, well, I'm Michelle, I post as "Michelle in Gander". I live in central Newfoundland, Canada. I've been married for 5 years to a wonderful DH who supports my fabric habit, and we have a beautiful 23 month old DD who likes to play with all my fabric and quilt tops. "My bankie!" she says of all of them. I've been quilting for about 8 years now, but only seriously for the last 4. I tend to handpiece and handquilt, but would love to learn longarm quilting. I love all colours, they all work in the right context. I belong to a few other online quilting groups, and have pledged not to buy any fabric for a year, until I can do something with what I already have. Thanks for reading! I always think of Nancy Drew's friend George....
My question: what does a late-14th-century quilt look like, and where did you find 600-year-old fabric? g Nann "georg" wrote in message .. . I'm Georg, female. With a name like that, one perhaps should specify. I live near Binghamton NY, and all of my kids have fuzzy faces and four feet. I'm 36 in another 2 hours, and it doesn't look likely to have the other kind of kid. But I'm a devoted Aunt. I've been married over 8 years now. I've been quilting for a while, but I do other needlework as well. I'm in the SCA, if you know what that is and care. Other hobbies include fermenting things, cheesemaking, garb making, and Calligraphy and Illumination. I am multiple chemical sensitive, and violently alergic to perfumes and other strong smells. I collect privy-related things and research. Fabric preferences include batiks, jewel tones, purples, blues, greens, and anything that isn't floral. I do modern all machine style quilting as well as completely by hand, and my current insanity is a 1390 reproduction- all by hand with authentic materials. I will *need* to do something modern when I finish it! And I'm in process of a Dear Jane as a take along sewing project to do by hand. Look for an Evil Sun Bonnet Sue Block come April. -georg |
