One of those hand held dust busters works as well and you can keep a
separate little bag for getting up beads.

I was beading a tassel and had got a long length of beads. I was sat in
my recliner chair with DH alongside of me in his chair watching TV. I
had a tray of beads on my lap, several thousands of beads in it but
only enough of some of the beads to finish the job.
Unthinkingly I pushed the tray down my legs and then proceeded to cross
my ankles.
I made a grab for the sliding tray but just caught the corner of it. It
flipped it up and a shower of beads descended on my DH. The look on his
face was one of sheer astonishment. I yelled don't move.
Then like a gorilla grooming its mate I started to pick the beads off
him. They had gone in his shirt pocket and down his neck. When I picked
up the largest, precious ones I then ran the dust buster over him and
then the chair.

I was happy that I got the ones that I only have enough off.

I laughed for days afterwards remembering the look on his face. It still
raises a few giggles.

I do hope this makes sence?

That would be an excellent way to go, and I'll bet it would be a good
item for a jewelry supply place to offer. The beauty of the fine mesh
fabric is that it's cheap and easy. All you have to do is shut the
vacuum off and shake out the lost stone. My shop and store is in an old
barn with deep cracks between the floorboards, so if anybody does any
rebuilding some hundred years from now, they are going to find some
interesting treasures.

Of course, getting the piece of fabric might raise some interesting
situations for some jewelers if they ask something like:

"Honey, do you have an old pair of pantyhose that I can use?"

"Yes... and what do you want them for, dear?"

"Well, I just dropped a 3 mm sapphire on the blue carpet under my
workbench, and I read on RCJ that if I .....

You're right, Douglas. A container could make recovery easier -- and
maybe save a lot of explanations.

I've been following this string since it first came up, and I'm amazed
at the time it takes for good ideas to get around. I first came across
it 15 or 20 years ago in a woodcraft magazine, and it popped up a few
years back in a "Household Hints" program on public television. And
now it finally turns up in a forum where it should have been common
long ago!
Blessed be, for sure...
