Ok. Should have said the space age. In 1962, over the intercom system
in high school, we listened to one of the first space missions.
Mercury, maybe? Anyway, that's tremendous for someone to go from horse
& buggy to shooting things out in space. Even if it was just a monkey
for a couple hours. :-)

Yes, she had running water pipes, but not toilet facilities. :-)
That's what I meant by no indoor plumbing.

Sorry, Dianne, but if your grandmother died in 1967, she did not live
to see anyone orbit, much less walk on, the moon.

From a NASA site:
Apollo 8
Launched 21 December 1968
Lunar Orbit and Return
Returned to Earth 27 December 1968

Apollo 10
Launched 18 May 1969
Lunar Orbit and Return
Returned to Earth 26 May 1969

Apollo 11
Launched 16 July 1969
Landed on Moon 20 July 1969
Sea of Tranquility
Returned to Earth 24 July 1969

Also, the Romans had plumbing.

The First Space Flight was the Russian Sputnik , with the Dog ,
Laika , later one of my neighbours, who was a doctor in Siberia , had
a dog that was one of her off spring, the flight happened on
Yom kippur 1958 ....
As i came back and had my breaking fast , meal,we heard it over the
first news on the radio ,,,

Your letter reminds me how amazed i was 20 years ago to read that
Marcony`s widow died ,it seemed she would have been dead for long, if
you think how Comunications developed.....since the first Radio !
or that Napoleon Bonaparta`s Turtle died? some living creature that
actually was touched by Napoleon ,,, WOW ,,,,,
gives a tottal new perspective to TIME
