Well, thank you, Annie. I had no notion what / whom they were quoting.
Much akin, it seems to "full of sound and fury and signifying nothing".
However, I think I'll just whip out blog when around my
great-grandchildren and see if they're impressed. Yes. That might do it.

It's short for Web Log....which are personal webpages where people just
yammer on and on about stuff (like politics or their children or what
they have for dinner every week). The political ones are the people the
media quotes when they say "According to bloggers......" You can
even have a blog about your quilts if you want. Anyone can be a
journalist online!!!

As for blogs, I can't imagine pouring out my heart and soul for the
entire world to read....

Mostly, they don't. They're a great way of publishing stuff nobody
will ever bother looking at. The point seems to be that they make
you feel better for doing it...

Though I have run across one or two that were quite useful in terms
of showing pictures of how to use certain equipment and that sort
of thing.

I just had a look at a few quilting blogs and they didn't seem to
do anything that wouldn't be better done with an ordinary static
page - the blogging software just slows things down and adds clutter.
In theory, a blog ought to be a good way to talk about an ongoing
project but I haven't seen it yet.

The most notable blog of recent times was The Interdictor's blog of New
Orleans through Katrina, http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/
Doesn't come across as a very likeable person, but history handed him a
job to do and he did it brilliantly. He uses pretty near every Internet
technology I've ever heard of but there is a genuine point to it all.

I was talking about things like covers for iPods, rather than quilting
stuff. Blasphemous, I know.... One day, though, I'm going to get an
iPod!

It comes from the sound effect used in cartoons whenever anything is
shiny or sparkling. The sound effect is usually the same, bling.
Someone famous decided to use it doubled (bling bling) to refer to the
ostentatious diamond jewelry he wore, and it caught on so well that
now it is back to one word referring to anything that shines.

The term has been over used so much that a local non-chain drive in
restaurant has a Bling Bling Sandwich. I don't know what kind of
sandwich it is but it's the most expensive thing they have and it does
come wrapped in shiny tin foil.

One of the first things I looked up when I knew Katrina was going to
hit was the blog of a writer who lives in New Orleans and posts on
another group I read.

Storm mentions start on August 27.

I added "bling bling" to my RHS purple Blazer with the low profile 22"
chrome spoke wheels (Dubs), chrome trailer hitch, chrome tail pipe, clear
tail lights, chrome grill, chrome tag frame and I'm working on the chrome
luggage rack. My front plate says that this is "Snigdibblys Rolls Royce".
Plus - I had the boys drop in a whole jar of Ruby Dust to bling up my 4
layers of clear coat that goes over the purple metallic paint. When the sun
hits the paint - it blings!! It's LOUD!

It shouldn't deary!! But most of my friends were very surprised. I'm
considered to be the shy, reticent one by people who know me well enough to
call me friend. Doesn't speak well about my friends, does it? LOL!

I'd love to see a picture of your "bling, bling-mobile"! If you're the shy,
reticent one in your circle of friends, your friends must be a real hoot!

They are a hoot and I love them so very much just because they are. My
