Quilts Sandy Hook HUG quilt?
Mine goes back on my bed every time I have another surgery. Next one is
scheduled for Jan 10, yes, another foot surgery, as it didn't heal properly even with multiple cast changes during the healing process. In the meantime, my HUG is on display and every person that has seen it (even workmen) ask about it. Last fella that was here invited me to join their Church's Quilting Group : ) Can't yet as it isn't feasible at this point in time. Butterfly (1//2 of first Baby quilt finished--very slow going but it's getting done ) |

Quilts Sandy Hook HUG quilt?
Sandy, looks like that's already been done by Project Linus. Mark Lipinski
posted information on his Facebook page about pillowcases. I'll just copy and paste it here between the asterisks: *********** Here is YOUR chance to help the families in Newtown, cupcake... Becky at Quilter's Corner quilt shop in New Milford, CT is collecting pillowcases for the children at Sandy Hook School. She is trying to collect around 600. Please pass this message to any sewing friends. Pillowcases can be mailed to her at Quilters Corner, 312 Danbury Rd, New Milford, CT. 06776. *********** I don't think RCTQ has to make something separate with the group's name. But this group can provide a list of opportunities. I think it is a good idea for RCTQers to send directly to the Newtown area rather than to an RCTQ intermediary. Kay Ahr in Indianapolis, Indiana USA "Sandy E" wrote in message ... Howdy! I would like to send individual quilts to the school, to comfort, in a small way, and to show support. I know there are enough quilters around the country/world who can send a quilt, small, medium, large, lap, crib, whatever size or pattern or colors, to make a pile big enough to cover everyone involved. Because I get tired of the waiting and fussing over HUG quilts. And I'd like for each person, each family, to know that they are remembered. [snipped] Best wishes to all, Ragmop/Sandy On 12/15/12 1:42 PM, in article , "Kay Ahr" wrote: I am sending an email to the contact person listed for the Goshen Star Quilt Guild at the National Quilting Association. They are about 42 miles from Sandy Hook. There may even be churches with quilting groups in the Sandy Hook/Newtown area. I'd like to have a place where we could directly send blocks instead of sending them to someone in RCTQ who might or might not put them together and actually deliver a quilt. Sorry, I've been burned too many times by this group. Obviously my trust level is pretty low for something like this. Although I must say, that when someone in the Carol Doak group ripped off everybody by just keeping QOV blocks and was never heard from again, I sent my blocks to Pat in Virginia whose guild made wonderful QOV quilts. I know because they showed the photos. Kay Ahr in Indianapolis, Indiana USA "Ginger in CA" wrote in message ... Sorry, I do not do Facebook, has anyone considered we as a group doing a HUG for the school/community? No politics, just support. Ginger in CA |

Sandy Hook HUG quilt?
Project Linus is where I donate quilts and afghans because they can do
such good on a local level when a need arises. I also agree that it is individuals who disappoint and not groups. Everyone has mistakes or thoughtless people who let others down, but we hate to see it happen when we've worked with good intentions and then something happens. Side story: Lots of wonderful, wonderful people donate lap blankets, quilts and fleece comfy covers to the cancer center for chemo patients. Some, like my mother, were there for 6 hours at a time and napped, etc. One of the nurses decided my tiny almost 90 year old mother needed a blanket and what did she choose from a large selection - a huge, heavy, gaudy sports teams fleece Mom could barely handle. We tried to "re-donate" it at the end of the day, but the nurse was so pleased to give it to us. It's the thought that counts but some people need to put a little more thought into things. I'm sure some dear crafter planned the cover for some of the male patients who don't wish to be covered in flowers and fairies, but the nurse didn't see it that way - haha. This kind of thing wouldn't stop me from donating to a group that does good work, however. I try to keep my donations mixed as to feminine/masculine or neutral and hope for the best! I, too, love mine. I often see things I hadn't spotted before -some
words are hidden so well! Whatever is happening right now, this group has been a good and kind group. .. In message , Donna in Idaho writes You all will never know how much I cherish the Hug Quilt made for me after my DH passed away. I use it for a topper on my bed and have received many compliments on it. I'm always pointing out to visitors where the various blocks came from. Donna in Idaho -- Best Regards Pat on the Green |

Sandy Hook HUG quilt?
Ramona, you are so right about the appropriate quilt/blanket for the
appropriate person. We often get fleece blankets big enough for an 18 year old boy made out of pink bunnies or ballerina fleece! We sometimes receive quilts that would be perfect for that 18 year old boy, only to turn it over and find pink bunnies or ballerinas for the backing! Sandy Hook HUG quilt?
I miss it, too: very much. But, at least we were lucky to have what we
had at all: many people never experience such fellowship. .. In message , Leslie & The Furbabies in MO. writes I have to agree with Kay. I think squishies, The Directory and Hugs have become things of the RCTQ past. Sad. Just plain sad. I miss what we used to have here... and all the quilters who have drifted away (or, even sadder, passed away). Leslie & The Furbabies in MO. -- Best Regards Pat on the Green |

RCTQ of the past was Sandy Hook HUG quilt?
Just my 2cents or maybe nickel's worth.....
I have participated in hugs since I found this group as a new quilter in '05 or so. I made blocks for several hugs, hosted one and was a recipient of 2 that I cherish. I passed when the request was for something other than a block or when someone would request blocks for more than one family members. I haven't received a request for a block in months if not a couple years. I also sent squishies on occasions but it's been years since there was a current list of members. I also enjoyed the "what I'm collecting" conversations and tried to participate when I could. I also enjoyed the block swaps and many of the BOMs. Why did I stop participation? First was time. I had to go to work full time instead of quilting full time. Second was lack of BOMs and block swaps. I didn't/don't have expertise/time to host either. Lastly, this group became very "cliquish". I even had one newbie email me that I was the only one to respond to her in a positive way. I have made a couple of long time friends on this group and keep in touch with them but for the most part, I lurk and that's the way it will be for the time being.
