Sandy Hook HUG quilt?

Mine goes back on my bed every time I have another surgery. Next one is
scheduled for Jan 10, yes, another foot surgery, as it didn't heal properly
even with multiple cast changes during the healing process. In the meantime,
my HUG is on display and every person that has seen it (even workmen) ask
about it.
Last fella that was here invited me to join their Church's Quilting Group
: ) Can't yet as it isn't feasible at this point in time.

Butterfly (1//2 of first Baby quilt finished--very slow going but it's
getting done )

Sandy, looks like that's already been done by Project Linus. Mark Lipinski
posted information on his Facebook page about pillowcases. I'll just copy
and paste it here between the asterisks:

I don't think RCTQ has to make something separate with the group's name.
But this group can provide a list of opportunities. I think it is a good
idea for RCTQers to send directly to the Newtown area rather than to an RCTQ
intermediary.

Project Linus is where I donate quilts and afghans because they can do
such good on a local level when a need arises.

I also agree that it is individuals who disappoint and not groups.
Everyone has mistakes or thoughtless people who let others down, but
we hate to see it happen when we've worked with good intentions and
then something happens.

Side story: Lots of wonderful, wonderful people donate lap blankets,
quilts and fleece comfy covers to the cancer center for chemo
patients. Some, like my mother, were there for 6 hours at a time and
napped, etc. One of the nurses decided my tiny almost 90 year old
mother needed a blanket and what did she choose from a large selection
- a huge, heavy, gaudy sports teams fleece Mom could barely handle. We
tried to "re-donate" it at the end of the day, but the nurse was so
pleased to give it to us.

It's the thought that counts but some people need to put a little more
thought into things. I'm sure some dear crafter planned the cover for
some of the male patients who don't wish to be covered in flowers and
fairies, but the nurse didn't see it that way - haha. This kind of
thing wouldn't stop me from donating to a group that does good work,
however. I try to keep my donations mixed as to feminine/masculine or
neutral and hope for the best! Moni

Ramona, you are so right about the appropriate quilt/blanket for the
appropriate person. We often get fleece blankets big enough for an 18
year old boy made out of pink bunnies or ballerina fleece! We sometimes
receive quilts that would be perfect for that 18 year old boy, only to
turn it over and find pink bunnies or ballerinas for the backing!

had at all: many people never experience such fellowship.

Just my 2cents or maybe nickel's worth.....

I have participated in hugs since I found this group as a new quilter in '05
or so. I made blocks for several hugs, hosted one and was a recipient of 2
that I cherish. I passed when the request was for something other than a
block or when someone would request blocks for more than one family members.
I haven't received a request for a block in months if not a couple years. I
also sent squishies on occasions but it's been years since there was a
current list of members. I also enjoyed the "what I'm collecting"
conversations and tried to participate when I could. I also enjoyed the
block swaps and many of the BOMs.

Why did I stop participation? First was time. I had to go to work full
time instead of quilting full time. Second was lack of BOMs and block
swaps. I didn't/don't have expertise/time to host either. Lastly, this group
became very "cliquish". I even had one newbie email me that I was the only
one to respond to her in a positive way. I have made a couple of long time
friends on this group and keep in touch with them but for the most part, I
lurk and that's the way it will be for the time being.
