Stitching Over 2
I asked this question in a previous post, but I guess it got lost in
the other questions since nobody answered it. Is 28 ct. usually the starting point for stitching over 2 threads? Would you ever stitch over 2 on something of a smaller count? -- Suze Cat hair? That's just an embellishment. |

Do you mean, like 32-ct or 36-ct, or the other way? I'm too tired to
figure it out. Either way, I've done both. Meredith Suzanne wrote: I asked this question in a previous post, but I guess it got lost in the other questions since nobody answered it. It is completely up to your personal preference. The main issues to
consider are your eyesight and how large you want the finished piece to be. You can stitch over two on a 6-ct afghan if you want. I don't want to think about how many strands of floss it would take to get good coverage for that! The reverse is also true as you can stitch over one on 40-ct gauze. Try a few stitches on a scrap or in the far corner of your fabric to see what is comfortable and pleasing for you. If the count is 25 or less, then I like to use at least three strands. Between 26 and 32 count I stitch with two strands. I have never stitched on a canvas with a higher count than 32, but with the coverage I get stitching 2 over 2 on 32 count, I am sure I would *not* want to use two threads in the needle; i.e I suspect I would use one thread. It depends on what look you are going for....I have one of MLI's Santas
(Santa of the Forest) I was gonna do over 2 on 32 count, until I saw a sample of it in one of my LNS...done over 2 on 14 count. It looked gorgeous done up big like that....so now I'm reconsidering..... -- Siptah Columbus, OH "Suzanne" wrote in message news:200404182328221575%suzette40@comcastcrossnets titch... Suze, do you realize you divide your fabric count by 2 because you are
stitching over 2 threads? So 28 count fabric is 14 stitches per inch, 32 is 16 stitches per inch. So 22 count fabric would be 11 inches per inch and a "larger" count. Jane in WV |

Others like things more chunky, especially for certain kinds of designs, or might want to use bulkier threads or whatever. Best wishes, Ericka |

No, it was just really late and I was very, very tired. It makes
perfect sense to me now that I'm actually awake! I have one piece on 28 ct that I use 3 strands for, because it's on black with light colors and I can see through when I use two strands. Really, it just depends on the look you're going for. Meredith Suzanne wrote: On 2004-04-18 23:46:01 -0500, Meredith said: Do you mean, like 32-ct or 36-ct, or the other way?
