Default Funky Chicken Quilt Top

Woo Hoo! Yesterday I finished piecing a wild quilt top. The
working title is Funky Chicken. This has several chicken prints
from the "Fowl Play" line that was popular a few years back.
Black, white, yellow, red. BTW, this is for the guild challenge:
'Black & White and ________' (add one or two other colors.) Since
this is only a top, it is too early to dance. The quilt is due
next Tuesday, so I'll post a happy dance next week. Meantime I'll
tell you about the top.

I used a split 4 patch double split block, inspired by Judy
Hooworth's book Razzle Dazzle Quilts, page 42. Split 4 patch is
just a 4 patch block with added skinny sashing dividing the
patches, center square is optional. Double split means adding
more sashing between the finished blocks. (Just read the book!)

I pieced 2 opposing patches with the wild white prints (chickens
or dots), the other 2 with really bold yellow prints; the 4
sashes with 4 different lively red prints; tiny center square
white/black prints. The larger sashes are directional or
geometric black/white print. Yellow squares in central area
sashes, red squares in outer sashes. Skinny pieced yellow inner
border. Asymmetrical outer border at 5" and 3.3" .... one and a
quarter side black prints, the rest white prints. Lots of
cheerful chickens on outer border. All the prints are BUSY ...
dots, stripes, circles, squiggles, triangles, splashes. Small
quilt ... 32.5" x 41" .... but still has *50* different prints
and very bold colors. Edgy, did I mention edgy? I think I out
dazzled Judy's model on this one! G

As an alternative, you could come visit me, and I'll let you use my
digital camera here long enough to photograph the quilt. Or just send
the quilt, and I'll photograph it for you!

Hi Nancy (and Wendy too!)
Thanks for the kind words. If I were going to the show, I'd be
glad to carry the Funky Chicken along. I will not be going this
time due to another obligation. Y'all be patient and you can see
it at MAQF in February.

A side note about this little quilt. When I started it I thought
that maybe it would be a fun baby quilt for my DN's little one
expected in late Sept. When I finished I decided NOT to give it
to any child, for fear that the parents would blame me for any
and all emotional trauma the kidlet ever suffers!

All for now. PAT

Pat, this sounds reallly wild and oh so nifty! If you can't get get a
picture posted for all of us here maybe you could drive it around so we
could see it. I do my "oohs and ahhhs" much better in person.
