Jewels of Olivia de Haviland's Sister

Two quick statements:

First--I know I'm dating myself when I speak of
Olivia de Haviland with a familiarity which would seem
to indicate that I think everyone alive knows who she is.

Second--I also know I'm being a tad presumptuous in
thinking that most folks who know Olivia de Haviland
do not know ... as I did not ... that this other actress
--perhaps even more famous than Ms. Haviland--was her
sister.

Ah ... much better. Glad I got that off my chest. Shall
we proceed? Did I say Happy Thanksgiving to you all?

She was born Joan de Beauvoir de Haviland in Tokyo, Japan
and came to the United States with her mother and sister
when she was a child. She studied music, drama, painting,
and ballet.

She had brief parts in films with such greats as Katherine
Hepburn and Joan Crawford and then decided ... following
the most advanced scientific methods ... under the advisement
of a fortune-teller ... to change her name. Which she did
.... choosing the name by which we all know her today.

During her years in Hollywood our collector of beautiful
jewelry made over 45 films such as Jane Eyre, Tender Is The
Night, Suspicion, and many more. It was for this last film
by Hitchcock that she won an Academy Award ... making her
the youngest leading lady at that time to win that coveted
prize.

Lest you think she was only an actress or a jewelry collector
.... I am here to tell you she was more. She was on the board
of the Motion Picture Welfare Trust Fund ... and even more
impressive ... she was a recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt
Humanitarian Award.

So ... who is she ... what is her name? Oh Benjamin ... you
cruel thing ... do not keep us in suspense for even another
instant ... we prithee.

Well ... if you folks are going to prithee me ... I will not
refuse. Her name ... for those who do not already know ... was
Joan Fontiane ... and she had some quite striking pieces of
jewelry.

Oh what to choose what to choose? One potato ... two potato ...
three potato ... four ... I choose ... the ... Wing Clip

It is made of ... engraved gold pav=E9ed in platinum with 84
round diamonds. Total diamond weight: Approximately 2.00
carats with two pear-shaped pink topaz in center. Alas ...
it's unsigned ... but quite interesting.

For those of you who are new to this thing called Tidbits...may I
direct you to my home page at
www.tyler-adam.com where you will scroll
down the left side menu till you get to the area that says Tidbits
Graphics ... and then click on the link that says: Wings ... where
you'll see an image of a pav=E9ed Wing Clip.

And there ya have it.
That's it for this week folks.
Catch you all next week.
Benjamin Mark
