weight should not alter or purchase clothing until the desired weight is reached, then to reward themselves with a new wardrobe suitable for the new figure. 0:^) Now that could be interesting! What would one wear in between sizes? Nothing????? Mavis Drawstrings, dawlin', drawstrings! How do I know? Well, a couple of years ago, when I got the first of my two back-to-back bouts of pneumonia, I was given steroids. Naturally, they did nothing for the bugs, but puffed me up like a balloon. I didn't notice until I tried on some clothes for church, and discovered I couldn't get into a single skirt. Now, once I had got out of bed, I had been living in two or three pairs of drawstring pants I had then, and they still fit. So, I went out and bought three lengths of fabric, made skirts consisting of a centre back seam, a top casing with a buttonhole in for the strings, and a hem. Those skirts (and the pants) did me until I got back down to my usual size. Incidentally, this last bout of bronchitis, a couple of months ago, the same thing happened, so I (1) told the doc I will never again use steroids - they simply don't work on me, and (2) dug those drawstring skirts and pants out of the back of the closet and returned them to use until I can get rid of the extra fat again. Not likely since she's pushing 80, with poor eyesight, and every bit the Queen of the Manor. Who has a DD who sews... Cea not so sure I'd consider Joann's as a teaching establishment, come to think of it. |

... I think perhaps y'all have hit the nail on the head. Earlier this year, I altered most of my DM's clothes, letting out and adding ingenious panels, gussets, etc, to allow for expanded girth, after listening to endless "I can"t lose weight!" sob stories. WEEELlll, guess what? Not a garment worn, and she is down 20 lbs. Whatever it is I do, I simply cannot break even, let alone win. It never fails, there is always a kicker in it for me. Now, natch, she wants them all taken in. snip Oh dear. *sigh* I remember when you were working on her clothes. You did indeed put a WHOLE lot of work in that and managed things previously unimaginable in the process. I was Impressed just by the descriptions of what you were doing, so I know it was a ton of work. I remember too that she's very particular about her clothing. Can you hold her off till she's "done" losing weight?? Can you tell her that some of the clothes can't be altered back? (Because you had to cut them to fit her shape, not because your sewing skills stink---and you say it that way too!) Just don't stew about her clothes, ok? You will make yourself sick. C'mon over to my house if you need to hide out. I promise to let you have free rein in the kitchen and to share all my sewing room toys with you. I'll even let you reach all the stuff from the "high up" shelves for me instead of getting the stepstool. LOL remembering a slightly snide remark about my lack of height..... LOL Chin up!! Go sew something fun for the GBebes. That will make you feel better. Sharon -- --- "Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of time and just annoys the pig." |

That's 5" off me waist and me bum, so no way do those clothes look like anything other than WAAAYYY too big! I'm going for a certain number of half way clothes just fer decency's sake! Kate, and others, I've gone on my first diet, a gentle one to lose these 5 pounds I've gained from just sitting at a desk typing for a living! Anyway, since I've been doing this I have had the keenest sense of smell! It's almost surreal! I'm sure part of it is spring finally springing but even inside my food smells so much stronger and I can smell men wearing cologne one block away. Even fabric is more pungent. Has anyone else noticed this? Am I crazy? Charlotte the bloodhound |

Charlotte the bloodhound No. Partly it will be because you are healthier, so every sense may be a little keener, partly you are more conscious of it, and partly it is spring. How are you doing? I have another 32.5 to lose to reach my goal of 10 stone 3 lbs or five stone lost (about a third of my former body weight!). -- Kate XXXXXX Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.diceyhome.free-online.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |
