Default Knitting Request

My Mother who is 90 yrs. old now remembers a pattern she used to knit as a
girl ... it was a pillow - used knit and purl ... somehow you knitted (or is
that knit??) a square or rectangle, then gathered it all to the front and
stuck a big covered button in the middle. There are not too many things she
can do anymore so if I could find a pattern for such a pillow, it might
spark her interest a bit. I'm not a knitter so I cannot help her. Can
anyone help? (now I'm thinking why can't you just make that square and tug
it to the front and do it, but she says there's a particular pattern)

I haven't done much knitting recently but I would think it would have
four decreasing areas and then the remaining stitches in the centre
were gathered where the button would be.

Why not go to rcty and ask there ? I bet you would have a pattern in
minutes.

Hmmm. I was going to suggest just knitting a huge square (appx. twice the size
of the finished product), then put the pillow in the middle, on the diagonal,
bring the corners to the center, and then seam the two diagonals.

That's what I suggested ... but she says she needs a pattern 'cuz it's
different than that' .... I dunno .... but thanks for the suggestion Karen.
This type of thing has happened several times with my Mother - she thinks
she wants to do a particular thing, then when I search down the 'stuff' to
do such thing, I'm told it's not exactly what she wants to do right then.
Soooooooo ....... I keep trying.

Well she gets frustrated that I'm sitting there doing needlework or
quilting, etc. - and I know if I found something that she could and would
love to do - I would be happier too ... does that make sense? Old age ain't
as golden as some would like you to believe.

And it's what good people do for their parents or grandparents, even when they
drive them totally nuts! lol

In that case, I apologise for the smart remark. It so happens, my mother is
one of the extremely awkward kind - no-one on this earth could ever do anything
right for her!! - but we don't even live on the same continent. I do have some
very old knitting etc. books which I have picked up at estate sales, would you
like me to dig some of them out and look to see if there is anything similar?

I didn't really take your remarks as a smart remark - just something I say
to myself now and again. I'd love you to have a look-see whenever you have
time just to see if there is such a pattern. Would appreciate it very much
.... if she's happy, I'm happy. :-))
