Default Question regarding getting custom made wedding rings

Just became engaged with my sweety, and together we have collection of seven
rings (mostly 14 carat) we want to convert using these as material for two
new wedding rings. Is this something that can be done? And if so, how do I
go about finding someone who can do?

I live near downtown Los Angeles, and the jewelry mart here is vast but
mostly geared toward new sales, and I wouldn't know how to begin to find
someone.

SWMBO has some pics to use as a guide, and she has a pretty specific idea of
what we want.

What should we be on the lookout for when visiting a jeweler, and beyond out
gut instinct, how do we know we got a good one?

TIA,

It CAN be done, the question is, do you really want to. If you use old
gold, the odds are, you will end up with a porous, brittle, ring. My sugestion
is that if you must use your old rings, use them as trade in for new gold. You
will find people that will use your gold, but you will probably be unhappy
somewhere down the road with the quality of the rings.

Any custom jeweler should be able to handle the job. The problem is
seperating the chaf from the wheat. Hopefully someone here can offer you some
personal knowledge on that. If that doesn't happen, poll friends, realitives,
and coworkers.

I would hesitate using someone that will use your gold to make the rings.
Having them offer you a good trade-in value on your gold might be a clue. Other
than that word of mouth is your best bet.
