LACK of enthusiasm
Sigh - well I know other lampworkers have felt this way
but the past month I barely feel motivated.... nothing is selling except special orders - and I'm tired of making the same thing over and over (sound familiar??? LOL) I'm seriously considering giving it up for the most part. Maybe just make them for me... or branch into some artistic experimentation... There is little profit left in it these days - and the hours at the torch are hardly worhwhile... for what little I make doing it... Anybody got any suggestions for getting out of the doldrums??? Cheryl, if you're planning to practice law, you won't have TIME to make

Cheryl, if you're planning to practice law, you won't have TIME to make lampwork. ha ha - you don't know me... but please remember - I will NOT be actively practicing law for several years yet--- it's my "retirement plan" G A recent poll stated that the median income for "female lawyers" in the US is like $65K..... I already make more than that from the government... and now am deep in hock on loans... so I really MUST stay with my government job until I pay all this horrendous debt off - and am eligible for a retirement... And yeah, I guess you're right -- you seem to be a bundle of energy, doing things that 1% of would kill me......! ~~ Sooz ------- "Those in the cheaper seats clap. How odd. A dear female lawyer friend and her business partner (also female)
each make at least ten times that amount a year. They make $650,000 a year?!?!?!?!?!??!?! ~~ Sooz ------- "Those in the cheaper seats clap. The rest of you rattle your jewelry." That's not very interesting law AFAIK. I see, when I look at the lawyers I know (including the one I sleep with), that you have to do what interests you in the law field or you'll end up being so bored you shoot yourself. ~~ Sooz ------- "Those in the cheaper seats clap. Cheryl, take a brake for a while and see if that helps. I find that
sometimes I just don't want to bead and I take a brake and then I get inspired again. Roxan "Cheryl" wrote in message ... At least. She's come right out and said that she makes more money than she could ever spend. Amazing, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer person. KLUNK! All the partners where my sister worked made at least that. At Heller,
Ehrlich, White or something in SF. She was an executive there and was the only non-lawyer in that earning range. They did a lot of their work in international pharmaceutical dealings. I get into that rut fairly often. I had to give up the special orders
because the sense of obligation, and the lack of creativity, was just becoming too much for me.... but when I stopped, I also found suddenly that I was't feeling very enthusiastic about "what next?". So, for about a week, I did just plain frit beads. Two colors: the base and the frit. You know, they can be so suprisingly satisfying, so pleasing... there's something very wholesome about a nicely shaped frit bead... that before long I was adding frit colors and looking forward to the next combo, and then before you know it I was putting frit on blown vessels and practicing my vessel shaping, and practicing boro beads... I just let all idea of profit and production go out the window, and honestly I am very happy with the results. Doing special orders all the time was holding me back; it was keeping me in the rut of "stuff I've done before". Now, after just a week of not taking them, I am happily branching out of my "box" and doing stuff that's different for me... I don't have pictures yet but I will soon. Maybe what you need to inspire you is complete freedom to play and experiment, like it was in the "good old days", before you relied on it as a source of income? -Kalera http://www.beadwife.com http://www.snipurl.com/kebay Cheryl wrote: Sigh - well I know other lampworkers have felt this way but the past month I barely feel motivated.... nothing is selling except special orders - and I'm tired of making the same thing over and over (sound familiar???
