The quilt I am repairing
I have talked several times about a quilt I am repairing, and just
thought I would say some stuff about the progress of it. It is kinda going slowly, but that is because I sew on a replacement square, then let it sit for a while (sometimes a few days, sometimes as much as a few weeks), but I think it is looking good. When I gave it a closer examination, I saw that it needed to have the backing replaced as well as some of the squares on the front, and this almost made me give up on the entire thing, but I did look at what I had, and it turned out that I had a white sheet that I was not using, so I decided to use it for a new backing. I also decided to cut this new backing 2 inches bigger that the quilt and fold the extra over for the binding (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hw_OBqG_nAI, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfNGfTmSWSU) . I would of course replace the squares around the perimeter before I did this. I replaced the squares around the perimeter, then folded the backing to make my binding, and I suppose it passes the "galloping horse at 20 paces" test, but I still don't really like how it looks. So I went to the store to get some "regular binding" (I am too lazy to make it), but they had some 2" wide satin finish blanket binding and I decided to use that. I found a you tube video on how to miter the blanket binding around the corners, but decided instead to just use square corners instead. For the quilt label, I think I have described that I will write on a label something like "Ruth Sherwood: 1961, Brian Christiansen: 2017," with some sort of fabric marking pen, then tracing over it with a zig-zag stitch to make an "embroidered label." -- My Yonkoma: https://www.flickr.com/photos/brian0...57680223526176 The E-mail associated with the account is a "spamcatcher" account that I got to every couple of months to empty out, and anything sent to it will not be seen for probably several months, if it is seen at all.
