White work or candlewicking
Are these a similar technique and the candlewicking just with fatter
cotton thread?

Here is a short article on candlewicking from www.about.com
http://crossstitch.about.com/library...=candlewicking it says candlewicking is a form of whitework because it is traditionally done in white yarn/thread. I hope this helps -Shannon
