We wanted a doll for the school I worked at which wasn't a basic white =

The Laila doll apparently never made it to the shelves, but you could try
for a
Razanne doll, which appears to be available in the US. See

Here is the website for the doll

I looked at the website (thanks for that!) and, unfortunately, since
we are not Muslim, that isn't quite what I was looking for. The Leila
doll was really perfect, as she was Arab, but not of any particular
religion. It's too bad production never made it.

Ranee

The discussion here has reminded me that I bought my daughter a "baby
Gregor" doll (her brother's name is Greg). These were intended to be
"international" dolls, but I don't know whether they ever did an Arab
type. There is a description here
http://www.worldcollectorsnet.com/sashadolls/
and it appears some are still in production.

Yes -- I wondered about that as I knew that you were not Muslim and that seemed
to be more their point than being of Arab descent. By the way, you might want
to look for a baby doll first anyway- there are some sources for dolls that
have varied skin tones though generally features don't differ much. I ended up
getting a Bitty Baby with dark hair and medium toned skin for my DGD who is a
marvelous racial mix.
(She has ancestors that came from as far apart as Norway and Africa -- and
points in between). I have also made some dolls using fabric in kind of a
mocha shade - and yarn for hair with painted on facial features. They are
soft, safe and cuddly for little ones. I adapted a pattern from

Hi -- I have quite a few Sasha dolls - they are great but unfortunately are no
longer being produced. You can often get them on e-Bay. The older ones are
nicer than the most recent production. They are very sturdy and do come in a
medium skin tone with dark brown hair -- used ones are just fine. This is a
mint one and collector quality but I have purchased them for less when in good
condition but no longer mint.

By the way, if you want to knit for them, there are darling patterns available
-- I got an older baby bare and knit him a neat outfit.

That's a good idea. Elijah loves his stuffed toys, in fact his
favorite one is one his surgeon gave him for his birthday as kind of a
joke. The docs were all freaking out because he was so low on the
charts (sometimes not on them at all), but he was gaining weight and
getting taller and moving about, happy, hitting all the milestones, etc.
All my kids did this, but he just did it more. Well, she brought him a
wooly mammoth toy named Giganto, said when she saw it, she knew exactly
to whom it should go. Anyway, it's his favorite toy, and he chews the
tusks to help him fall asleep. It's just nasty and gross and we wash it
with his sheets, but he adores it. The rest of the mammoth is nice and
silky soft, but those tusks. Anyway, whenever we saw him hugging it,
we'd say "awww" so now he thinks that is the sound you make when you
hug, so whenever he hugs anyone or anything, he says "awwwwwww!"

Dominic asked for a baby doll last Christmas, so I gave him my old
Cabbage Patch doll. He still sleeps with it.

Regards,
Ranee
