Default 5th Annual Boo-apalooza Halloween Swap

Welcome to the Official Rules of the 5th Annual Boo-apalooza Halloween Swap.
This is my favorite holiday, and therefore, my favorite swap. Participates
may wish to print out these rules for future reference - computers have a
habit of "losing" important info like this just when you really need it!

You must e-mail me privately to sign up - posting here to the newsgroup is
not good enough because of all the goblins in the servers. After you e-mail
me at FroodBuffy at GriffinsFlight dot com , I will send you a confirmation
e-mail with my mailing address. If you think you are signed up, but have not
had a cheery, personal email from me, you are *not* signed up!!

Sign up by August 22, 2005. If you are not signed up by then, it's too late!
Remember, while I will be sending confirmation e-mails back to you as
quickly as possible, I will be on a stash raid next week, and won't be back
until the 21st. I'll check my mail and get back to you as soon as I can when
I return. The swaps need to be in my bone-chillingly cold hands by September
7th.

Here are the Official Rules:

1) This is a 2-part swap. You may swap in either or both parts. We are
swapping FEs (Fat Eighths, 18"x11" approx - see Note below), in sets of 8
FEs. You may send 2 sets, if you use DIFFERENT fabrics for each set, in
other words, no more than 8 FEs of any one fabric. I cannot guarantee you
will get back 2 completely different sets, but I'll try. So, you send me 8
FEs of fabric,and
you get back 8 FEs of fabric, all different.

Part 1 - Theme Swap - this is Halloween-themed fabric such as novelty with
pumpkins, witches (hey! some of my best friends are witches!), skeletons,
monsters, Trick or Treaters. Also acceptable are all-over prints that look
like background fabric (like that candy corn one, that's just candy corn,
with no spaces in it) as long as the fabric is Halloween-oriented. This does
NOT include Fall leaves, or Indian corn, or solids or nearly-solids. Yes,
those are all lovely fabrics, but not what this swap is about.

Part 2 - Blender Swap - this is abstract or geometric fabric in Halloween
colors. The fabric must have at least 2 colors - no Tone on Tones (ToTs) or
solids. This is NOT a novelty fabric swap. There should be nothing
recognizable in the design of the fabric - no pumpkins, Fall leaves bats,
skeletons, or bunnies. The following are acceptable: wild squiggles,
squares, triangles, lines, blotches, etc., as long as it has at least 2
colors in a Halloween theme. Halloween colors include orange, black, purple
and bright green. These are not the only colors you can use, but if the
fabric makes you think "Christmas" when you look at it, it's not right for
this swap.

2) We are swapping sets of 8 FEs. You may send 1 or 2 sets of Theme and/or
Blender. You can do both Theme and Blender, or just one part, and each part
may have up to 2 sets of FEs. I don't think I'm explaining this well, so if
you have questions, just ask.

3) All fabric must be 100% cotton, quilting-weight. I don't care where you
get it, but if it is thin enough to read newspaper through, I'll send it
back to you, unswapped. Please, be reasonable! If you wouldn't make your
favorite aunty a quilt with it, don't send it to the swap, either. Assuming,
of course, your favorite aunty loves Halloween fabrics. :-)

4) All fabric must be washed and ironed before cutting. I live in a
smoke-free home. I do have a dog, but he is not allowed free access to
fabric, and I take precautions to ensure no hair gets on swaps. Your fabric
will be fondled, at least by me, and if you are very lucky and have good
taste, Giles and Spike will give it a fondle, too! However, all fabric will
be kept in excellent condition.

5) Send your fabric squares in a plastic bag, or other wrapping - I see
saran-type wrap a lot (HOWEVER! Press-N-Seal is NOT acceptable, due to bad
experiences in past swaps!!), to keep it safe on its journey, and enclose
your name and address in the wrapping, in case of envelope rippage. Use a
separate baggie for each set, please. Send a self-addressed envelope with
return postage (not metered!!!) in with your swap. My post office will not
accept metered mail, no matter what your post office tells you.

6) Non-USA participants email me for mailing instructions. I try to allow
enough time for swaps to get to me from outside the US, and to allow for
mail holidays.

7) Mail your package so it arrives in my hands by September 7th (Remember -
September 5th is a Federal Holiday - plan accordingly!!), and I will mail
the swaps back out by September 12th.

8) Email me privately to sign up and get my mailing address. FroodBuffy at
GriffinsFlight dot com Please note this is a change of email for me. The
old one is in the directory.

9) If you sign up, but find you cannot participate, please send me a note to
let me know not to expect anything from you. Stuff happens, no big. But a
note will give me a heads up, so I don't sit by the mailbox, harassing Alton
everyday. :-)

NOTE: How big is a FE? Well, a FQ is roughly 18"x22", assuming the fabric
is 44" wide before washing. A FE (Fat Eighth) is half of that, cut so the
18" side stays the same, and the other side is 11". I like to fold a yard in
half, matching selvedges, so it is 36" by 22", then I cut along the fold,
dividing the piece into long half-yards. Then, I measure along the selvedge
edge to 18", and cut through both layers of fabric. You now have 4 FQs. Cut
each of those in half to measure 18"x11".

Yardage needed: for 8 FEs, you need 1 yard of standard width fabric. I like
to buy 1 1/2 yards, so I get to keep the extra. If your LQS cuts yards at 35
1/2", buy extra so everyone gets a properly-sized piece of fabric. If you
prefer to send 8 different FEs, that's fine. Or mix and match. Remember, if
you send more than one set of FEs, you MUST use a different set of fabrics.

If you are unsure what kind of fabric meets the Theme or Blender criteria,
just ask. I'll be happy to point you towards some online examples.

Remember, I'll be away from my computer (mostly) from the 11th to the 20th,
so if you don't hear from me during that time, don't panic. Ok, panic if you
want to (who am I to interfere with your fun?), but don't send me a jillion
emails asking why I haven't sent you my mailing address.

Hi - sorry if this is obvious...so if I send 8 FE's of blender fabric,
I'll get back 8 different blender fabrics? And if I send 8 different
theme prints, I'll get back 8 different theme prints? The theme
people won't have any blenders and the blender people (eww, not a
pretty image) won't have any theme prints, unless they send a bag of
each. Am I interpreting that right?

thanks Lynn

Yes, you understand perfectly! Now, for the bonus round question: how much
wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Howdy!
Get your panicky e-mails in now, folks,
while Wendy's still available.
Don't wait, be the first in the Panic Line.

Hey, Wendy, why haven't you sent us your mailing address? ;-D

Ragmop/Sandy --one of the problems w/ swapping is having to
give up some of that favorite fabric!

Of course, anyone who ends up with extra orange material as a blender
and they just really don't know what to do with it - you may certainly,
