Default OT - Interesting Read

Spin Sister - Myrna Blythe - inside the "women's" magazine industry. I
stopped reading them years ago, now I understand why. Real eye opener in how
interviews are booked, designers are reviewed and the politics behind it
all.

Mirjam,

Here's an example of what I was referring to:
Magazine X wants to interview Celebrity Z
Round 1. Sends donation to favorite charity in Z's name.
Round 2. Gifts to agent of Z.
Round 3. Phone call to Z's agent
Round 4. More gifts to agent and now some for Z.
Round 5. Agent may return call.
Round 6-10. More gifts, donations while Z reviews interview questions, the
magazine arranges the photographer, clothes, make up artist, catering as
specified by Z and the agent.

IF the interview comes off, Z still can decide not to let the interview go
to press...
And all this to let Z tell me her political views, about her latest charity
work.
No Thanks,
Cheryl

Mirjam,

I think it goes beyond the "free meal" or quid pro quo. The "star" is total
control of the whole process and reaps a large harvest. That donation counts
as a charitable deduction on her taxes, the "gifts" are not tokens, but
little blue Tiffany boxes ( or the like).
