Maybe it's just me.... My normal seatpartner on the train has noticed
how I seem to anticipate the bumps as we run over trackswitches - I
guess I hesitate when counting just BEFORE the bump and resume
immediately after. I've never noticed it myself, I guess I've just
gotten to know the lay of the track that well LOL

Yup G- BTDT. Two of us ride the GO train into Toronto every morning.
There are stretches of the track where I just sit and not stitch. And
there are some days when the coach we are vibrates too much to stitch.
It's as if one of the wheels is slightly out of round.

However, since it's a 35 minute ride each direction, it's amazing how
much stitching we get done.

For a while, I was riding a bus that hit a lot of potholes. I got a

10-count
kiddie kit for that trip, which worked much better than the 18-count.

Or maybe you'd do better with knitting or crocheting while you ride?

Hmm .... I have tried my hand at knitting but it is very much at the
basic " this is a needle, this is how you cast on stitches, etc. "
introductory stage. I enjoy it but don't actively do it at the moment
for several reasons. I enjoy my cross stitching too much to put it
down. I can see results instantly in stitching and for knitting you
really have to do a bit of it over time to see any results ( see the
work grow in size, see different sorts of stitches as you go and so on
). Also, we are in the beginning to middle stages of planning a major
move and the knitting needles and " how-to " book are packed up right
now. I mentioned this once as a side bar to a thread many months ago,
but the move on deck for us is overseas. Right now, I live in Ann
Arbor, Michigan. My husband is Australian with PR in the US. We are
moving back home to his native country at the end of this year. Our
target date for hopping on the plane is 20 December. The visa
paperwork for the permanent move on behalf of myself and my teenage
daughter ( my husband's stepdaugher ) is in the pipeline at the
Australian Embassy in Washington. We expect that back in a April to
June timeframe. Once we have that visa back, then we can purchase
plane tickets, one-way thank you ..... Anyways, so many things
to do to get ready. Oh, the crocheting you mentioned ? I tried that
at some point when I was in my teens, it was cool and I enjoyed it.
But I don't have time right now to pick that up again either.
Knitting though, I do have needles and instruction books, so one step
better than crocheting, which frankly, although I enjoyed it, I have
forgotten how to do it. But I know that it is fairly simple though
..... Julie

A *glass* nail file? Never heard of those.

Yep, glass. I thought it was rather strange, too. But it works w/o
taking too much off my nails, unlike the metal file I had been using.
My mom sent it to me last summer, and it's the only one I'll use now.
She received it from a friend (I think it's a NailTec brand), but I saw
a similar one in the grocery store this week.

Renae, this is cut and pasted from my mail. I tried to mail you this
reply, but the mail bounced. Julie

Renae,

I am going to the metropolitan Melbourne area. The closer
I can get to the inner city, the happier I will be. My husband is
Australian with PR in the US and we are now returning to Australia to
live there. I am a US citizen as is my 14 year old daughter so we are
currently going through the visa process with the Australian
government. My husband and I have two younger children together ( 14
year old is his step daughter ) and those 2 younger children already
have Australian citizenship through descent.

Take care, Julie

When I was there, one of the clients took me there on Saturday. I had
SO much fun, that I had to buy another large suitcase when there (at
the market of course).

When I returned home, when going through customs, I gave them my
declaration sheet, but was also asked if I had anything to declare.

My response was "Only that I am in SO much trouble when my DH sees the
new suitcase and how full it is".

The customs inspector laughed and sent me through.

DH reacted....well, let's say I still get teased about that trip.

Did you ever find any stash at the Vic Market ? During my 3 trips
there, I never did. Seemed like that they had everything but. ( and
for the uninitiated, Deb and I do mean everything ). To get stash
with an Australian theme over the years I have 1) gotten two gifts
from my mother-in-law 2) created my own stash through PC Stitch 3)
purchased Allura's Australia in Cross Stitch from a major bookstore 4)
some tearouts from my mother-in-law's Better Homes and Gardens [ Aus.
version ] 5) Ebay purchases [ haven't seen them yet, my MIL is keeping
them for me until I get there. Two big pattern books, too costly to
mail.

Isnt't that the worst ? When you know you have stash, someone else in
the family volunteers to keep it for you, and you haven't even seen it
yet ? ;-) ...

To Melbourne stitchers, where are the best places in the city to get
stash ?

Julie
