Default OT - good sources for pet meds?

Hi RCTNer's!
My little furry family has expanded enough now that health care is
starting to get pricey. My 4 baby kitties are now old enough to receive
Frontline. Not only do I have these babies but I have mommy, daddy, 2 outside
barn cats and a dog. We have bugs year round here and skimping on the flea
control is NOT an option. Does anybody know a good online source for this
stuff? I can buy it from the vet but it's sooooo expensive that way. Any help
you can send my way would be greatly appreciated!

My son has used PetMeds -- http://www.1800petmeds.com/ -- They *do* require a
prescription. Our vet was reluctant to write a prescription but he ended up
writing one for 6 months, instead of the year we asked for. I'll give him the
benefit of the doubt as to his reasons. Even so, it was still cheaper than
getting it from the vet -- there's even a bigger difference on year's supply.

Anne,

For whatever it's worth, we have a dog that I call our million dollar dog
because of all his problems and vet bills. I had become pretty friendly with
our vet's nurse and asked her one day about using one of the online or 800
pet med places to get advantage and heartguard. According to the nurse the
composition of the online and 800 sources can vary greatly because they buy
it at the cheapest price they can get to sell cheaply and still make a
profit. The composition can vary greatly because of laws in other countries
that are not as strict about the contents. Now the reason this would enter
into your decision to use these places is: if your animal develops a problem
while on these meds the company is not responsible for paying vet bills for
fixing the problem. Whereas if you use the meds from the vet that are
approved for your area you are covered and in the event of a problem
developing the company has to pay for the animal's care.

Hope this makes sense. It did to me and since our dog is purebred and, like
I say, has had health problems I decided not to risk it.

Good Luck.

Lorraine

Hi Anne

Maybe I'm lucking out with this new vet, but I tried a few of the
on-line shops only to find the price for prescription meds were as
high as our new vet charges.

With my old vet, I could always expect the tab to be well over a
hundred bucks.
We had an incident where we had to get the new vet out of bed and meet
us at his office. Total bill for everything was less than 80 bucks,
which included his 30 dollar emergency call charge.
We use these drops in one of the dogs eyes, my old vet was hitting my
up for 24 bucks per tube, on-line they were 10.45 plus 3.50 shipping
and handling. At the new vet, they are only 9.95 + tax.
In addition, he will match any price for a med that we bring in, if he
is higher. Which from the looks of things so far, I doubt that he
ever will be.

TTUL
Gary
