Unfortunately, the British site never has free shipping outside of Italy. I never buyed from the British site, since the American one is a bit cheaper for my choice of books. I have a friend here who buys from the Bristish one and she´s happy with that as well. I'm afraid to buy anything from non-European sites, because many packages end up having customs, plus VAT, plus a flat "customs handling fee" attached, and it can often be more than the value of the merchandise. Doesn't that ever happen in Sweden? My daughter was doing research in Ghana all last year. She came to Italy for Christmas, and did a good deal of Christmas shopping on the internet, having all the gifts sent to Italy. About half of them had this misfortune. The VAT for some of them was 50%; for the smaller gifts, the customs handling fee exceeded the value. -- Barbara Vaughan My email address is my first initial followed by my last name at libero dot it. |

Doesn't that ever happen in Sweden?=20 =20 AFAIK, books are free from custom taxes because of an International=20 convention (correct me please if I=B4m wrong). As for other things, yes, they should come with customs. I only buyed a=20 DVD from Amazon.com and it came without anything from Customs attached.=20 I didn=B4t indagate further ;-) Hugs, Anna Maria |

Ordering from UK doesn't produce any savings because shipping a book this size is a bit pricy. =20 2. The website initially told me the book is in stock for immediate shipment regardless of shipping method but the follow-up "status report" states they can't ship until the first week of June. =20 1 combined with 2 makes me think they won't be able to sell me the $36 book and will instead attempt to upsell me in June to the full retail price. Or, perhaps they're hoping that by delaying shipment I'll spring for overpriced "urgent" shipping on my dime. =20 I had a look on amazon.com and I saw that the discount on retail price=20 is 37%. It=B4s possible that they are selling some items with no gain. The bookseller gain in Italy is about 20%, I don=B4t know about USA. Sometimes booksellers have to sell without any gain in order to keep=20 their clients, the market is very tuff (I worked as a bookseller many=20 years ago in Pisa, Italy). It=B4s also possible that they choose this book because they saw that=20 there are many queries on this title and so they decided to keep the=20 price low. Sorry for my English today, it=B4s even worse than usual, but I have a=20 terrible headache. Hugs, Anna Maria |

The ship date is when they'll put it in the mail. When I look at the item, I see "usually ships in 3 to 5 weeks" before I've even put it in my shopping cart. I expect that the low price has attracted a lot of orders and by the time you finalized your puchase they'd run out of copies on hand. If they can't get new stock they might cancel your order but I'd be very, very surprised if they tried to up the price on you. Dawn |
