Default Pictures - at last!

I have struggled away with Picasa and hopefully have managed to download
the pictures of my calendar quilts that go, in rotation, in the window
between my hall and kitchen (so visitors don't die when they see what a
messy cook I am!). They are in the completed 2010 folder, and the
October/Nov. Dec. one is in the 2009 folder as that was the first to be
finished.

There is also a picture of Sophie's baby quilt in the UFO folder. Good
thing I took a picture before I quilted it - when I turned it over to
take the back I found I had put them together with the back upside down.
I screamed quietly, gritted my teeth and de-quilt-tacked it, and am
about to go and re-tack it, the right way round this time!!

I found Webshots so much easier to upload to, but hate viewing in it.
With Picasa I go with a wing and a prayer - when I can remember how to
get to the download mode. Why can't they give some instructions.

Those calendar quilts are really clever - and pretty! I think that was such a good idea.

Sophie's quilt is so bright and colorful - it's going to be adorable. Be glad you discovered that the back was
upside down BEFORE you quilted it.

I agree with you on Webshots and Picasa. I just haven't gotten around to moving all mine. I also tried Flikr,
but I think I like Picasa better than that one.

Wow. You are such a fine quilter and amazing artist. I love your
calendar quilts .... and everything else, too. Just gorgeous. I think
my favorite is your painted/embroidered piece that was the scene out
your bedroom window. Sigh. Beauty.

How times have changed - or attitudes. I remember as a bride longing for a
home where everybody didn't enter through the back door and see the kitchen
sink piled full and the kitty's food tossed with abandon on a floor that
needed mopping. I remember wanting a front door where there was some sort
of foyer instead of stepping right into my not-yet folded laundry on the
living room sofa.
Now, the home buyers are requiring an open concept.
Not this chicken.
I'm with you. If there was a full view of my kitchen from the front
door, I would enhance and obscure it with beautiful quilting.
You have done it magnificently. Good, good for you.

Thanks Louise - the little quilts work well instead of a curtain, and as
the kitchen is fully tiled in very neutral colours it gives it a bit of
life too. The hanging sleeve is on the kitchen side - quite narrow and
in the same colours as the background. I used expanding net curtain
rails and the window frame covers the ends looking from the kitchen side
so you can't see them at all. Its nice having a change every three
months too! One day I might do a Christmas one too!

Sophie's quilt is now reassembled!!

I was amazed with Picasa that the files they give to get the pictures
from have every picture I've ever downloaded, even those which didn't go
into the 'My Pictures' section - from before the time I had a digital
camera. There are hundreds and hundreds, all neatly sorted - clever
Picasa - no clicking, you just scroll down. Some I didn't even know existed.

Thanks Sunny. That picture was originally going to have the hot-air
balloons that used to pass overhead quite frequently, but they were
beyond my capabilities and looked very peculiar so I took them out!

Yes, I miss that outlook and the house, but unfortunately it wasn't
transportable. However I do like the town we live in now. Where we used
to live was very much a commuter village near to the city of Nottingham
(Robin Hood!) and it emptied in the mornings, but here everyone stays
put as we are all old!! (well that is a bit of an exaggeration!).

Its a very friendly little town though, with lots to do for both of us -
sometimes too much - so have never regretted the move, and although we
can't quite see the sea from the house it is there every time I go
shopping, though I must admit that now I sometimes forget to look at it.

Friends are more important than buildings, aren't they.

.... and how I long for a husband who doesn't start his pile of 'things
to go out to the car/things that have just been taken out of the car so
that more things/people can occupy the seats(!) just inside the hallway
by the front door. Perhaps I should cover this pile with a quilt -
thinks... perhaps I could cover a large cardboard box with quilting and
pop it over the pile - or would he then start another pile on top of the
box!! After 44 years of re-training I have given up - everytime we go
out together we have to use my little car because only the driver's seat
is free in his large one - and don't talk about the boot (trunk) - no
room for any shopping in there!!

....and last night he left his car window open on the drivers side, and
it rained...

Thanks Polly, glad you like my attempt at screening my mess!

When I evenually found how to download I expected to have to choose the
pictures from my 'MY Pictures' folder, but it gave me this huge option
instead. Don't know why - it just comes!

Today is wonderful cold 20degrees C and for the first time in days I
feel comfortable. 30+ degrees I don't like. Only one of the Orchids
survived the winter Pat, and that wasn't brave enough to flower this
year : ( It is in what I imaginatively call 'the damp shaded area' as
opposed to the rest of the garden which is ... well beach, and for the
last 2 weeks Tropical Beach!!
