FABRIC SALE in Knoxville TN
There is a Fabric sale this weekend in Knoxville TN Expo center. It is
being put on by the same guys that do the sales a few times a year, in SC. My girlfriend Jo ask me to let you guys know about it. She got card from the fabric guys earlier this week but went out of town before she had a chance to let you guys know. The link below is pics that I took from the SC sale that I took her to earlier this year. http://community.webshots.com/album/28577336HEKAdofGtS |

Oooh, what "guys"? I'm a fabricholic just looking for more ways to satisfy
my habit. Do these guys come to Reno, NV? We don't have many fabric stores here. I can remember living in northern Virginia and someone would sponsor a sale where fabrics had been brought from Africa. Such wonderful and beautfiul items. Thanks, Kay "Jett107" Jett107atcharter.net wrote in message ... There is a Fabric sale this weekend in Knoxville TN Expo center. And the place at Kietzke and Plumb? The $2/yard place? Then there's Hancock's on Greenbrae at Pyramid, and JoAnn's, but I don't go there. Mill End is my favorite - you do know where that is? Just off Kietzke at Kuenzli? Where the old main post office used to be. -- Joanne http://members.tripod.com/~bernardschopen/ Life is about the journey, not about the destination. |

Thanks for the reminders! I keep forgetting about that $2 Per Yard place,
and I even teach near there! I didn't know about the Windy Moon. Where is that? I'm not into quilting --- yet. I'll probably never make quilts, but I'd like to use quilting and piecework techniques on clothing. I think I was spoiled by the overwhelming number of fabric store choices in the Washington DC suburbs where I lived for 20 years. My favorite there was G Street Fabrics in Rockville MD then Centreville VA. I even shopped there when it was in the District as the G Street Remnant Shop. Hancock's was Minnesota Fabrics out there. When I lived in Indianapolis, there was a JoAnn's ETC. Huge place! I'm one of those folks who likes to drive and explore and find fabric stores. Someday I'll head to Sacramento and spend the day. I figured there would be more close by, especially with I-80 either closed or requiring chains nowadays. I've been in Reno/Sparks a couple of years now, but I'm still finding things. And there's always Carson City. Thanks for the tips! Kay What??? How about Mill End? And the place at Kietzke and Plumb? The $2/yard place? Windy Moon is a really delightful shop just off E. 4th Street in that area that is working so hard to improve itself. They're in an old bank building on Spokane Street. 440 Spokane. Lots of free parking, too. Grab the phone book and look under Quilts and under Fabric. There are several new places (new to me) that might be worth a look. The Quilt Stop in Sparks, a shop near the Atlantis that claims the best thread assortment...enough to fill a Saturday shopping spree. For most purchases, though, you had to go to Sacramento or San Francisco. Today, that has changed. I've heard Nordstrom's is considering a store here. I went there to get my Singer serger. -- Joanne http://members.tripod.com/~bernardschopen/ Life is about the journey, not about the destination. |

I remember the days of buying fabric in Sears and Pennys! And in all
department stores. When I was a kid in Cincinnati, I bought my first fabric and patterns in a department store called McAlpin's. Now about those Reno phone books! Where is a reliable source for recent ones? (WARNING: This next part is just ranting and raving. --Kay) The first thing I do when I move to a new city is check the phone book for the library, electoral board, and fabric stores. When I did that here, after finally finding a phone book at Raley's on North McCarren, most of the numbers were out of date. Turns out the phone book was more than a year old. That was summer of 2001. Then I could never seem to find anymore phone books until this past September at Raley's in Old Town Mall. And those phone books are the November 2002 issue. Went to the library thee too. Got an ancient copy of the Sacramento phone book and copied the pages for fabric stores and teacher supply stores. I'm on track break for the month of November. I've got time to do some local exploring. Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions, and the sidetip to NostalgiaLand! They will send one on request, or (last I heard) you could pick one up at their office on Vassar just west of Kietzke. (I still think of them as "Nevada Bell.") There is a second, non-telephone-company, directory around, too. They will give those to anyone who will take one, and left them on people's porches/stoops last spring, I think. Phone directories come out once a year, and there is the "lead" time prior to printing, delivery, etc., so I don't think they are ever 100% accurate. Let your fingers do the walking - call for hours, change of address, still in business before making a trek with only one objective. You can also use the on-line yellow pages at http://www.theultimates.com/yellow/ I am in agreement with you on getting a phone book when I move (which I used to do often) but I also stop in a realtor's office and ask for a local map. They seem to have the most up-to-date maps since they're selling new houses as well as older ones. Next stop is always the library for a card and reconnaissance. ;-) Enjoy your break! I never taught elementary school, only high school and college. I miss those long summer breaks! -- Joanne http://members.tripod.com/~bernardschopen/ Life is about the journey, not about the destination. |

I'll be down that way tomorrow, so I'll stop in. Wonder why nobody has told me about that place before . . . . ? There is a second, non-telephone-company, directory around, too. You can also use the on-line yellow pages at http://www.theultimates.com/yellow/ I've used online yellow pages before, but your suggestion is much better. Enjoy your break! I never taught elementary school, only high school and college. I miss those long summer breaks! What did you teach? I've taught middle school, junior high, and high school too. Even adults. I'm using my break to visit local middle schools to see how math is taught there these days. I've been here only a couple of years, so I'd like to find out what concept of middle schools is used here. So maybe next Spring I'll apply for a transfer. Then I'll be back to those long summers. I sure used to get lots of sewing done in those days. It's amazing how sewing is so mathematcial -- especially patchwork. And I know exactly how long 5/8" is! Oooooooh, I went to that Wild Moon place. No wonder you said "What!?!" when I said there were so few fabric spots here. That place is amazing. That was better than chocolate. I was overwhelmed. The old quilts on display were my favorite part of my visit. I'll go back! |

Wild Moon? No it's really called the Windy Moon. I guess my imagination
was running wild while I was there. Kay Ahr in Reno To reply directly to me, remove "WESTHI" in the email address. ------------------------------------------------ "Kay Ahr" wrote in message ...
