Default Advertising on RCD

Simply put: Don't do it.

No ads for commercial web sites.
No "for sale" ads.
No auction notifications.

rec.crafts.dollhouses is a non-commercial newsgroup. That means for
sale, for auction, "service," or any other commercial-type messages
or ads are not welcome here. Not the poster, just the posts. Kindly
restrict your ads to the appropriate "for_sale" newsgroup.

Here is the appropriate portion of the FAQ, which applies to
commercial posts:

-----------
6. Can I post a for-sale or auction ad here?

No. This is a discussion group devoted to miniatures and dollhouses.
Advertisments tend to turn this into a discussion group devoted to
advertising. Since we prefer to stay on topic we ask that you post
all commercial advertisements to rec.crafts.marketplace.

We thank the retail vendors who participate in this group for limiting
their advertising to a tag line or signature file unless specifically
requested to give further information to the group.

No. Let me repeat that: NO ADS. This is a discussion

Retail vendors who participate in this group may
post their business name and website in their signature file. (That's
the part of the message that comes after you sign your name) The key
here is that these folks are part of the community and regularly offer
up help and conversation within the group, not advertising.
Vendors may respond to direct requests for product information if such
questions are asked on
the group.

Vendors are encouraged to ask for a link to their
business web site or store from our FAQ website by writing to the
webmaster at the email address given on the website. Please be sure to
include your store address or the website URL.

Just to make sure this is clear: You are welcome.
Your advertising is not. If you do not want to abide by these rules
please feel free to take yourself to some other forum. "

There've been exactly zero - none - zilch - nada posts in the last week
except for one reply to a month-old message and two ads. What's the
problem? If an ad or two can get some life into here, more power to
them. It's not like a continuous flood from some repetitive thoughtless
vendor.

I know that you're technically right and you mean well. But if someone
came here for the first time and saw your lengthy response to what
appears at first glance to be a harmless reference to someone's clearing
out his miniature junk drawer or a possibly interesting book, they might
be instantly turned off, afraid that anything they said would be jumped on.

Two ads.

Wrong. Using this newsgroup as your private ad agency is against the
rules, 99.99% of the other users of the group can obey this simple,
considerate rule, why should .01% be excused from it? If there's not
enough life for you here, post something.

Just because only one person a week cruises down a particular stretch
of highway doesn't mean the speed limit automagically jumps from 30 to
100.

It's not like a continuous flood from some repetitive thoughtless
vendor.

Doesn't matter, one post, two, twenty...when does it become "wrong"
for you?

I know that you're technically right and you mean well.

Exactly. Which is why I have every intention of responding exactly
the way I have been, for the past 7+ years.

But if someone
came here for the first time and saw your lengthy response to what
appears at first glance to be a harmless reference to someone's clearing
out his miniature junk drawer or a possibly interesting book, they might
be instantly turned off, afraid that anything they said would be jumped on.

If that's so, then they don't read very carefully, nor do you, since:
a) You're putting your own words into the post and your own spin on
it, since no specific post is mentioned, and this is a semi-periodic
posting, and;
b) There's no reference to anything other than posting advertising --
not asking questions, posting suggestions or anything else one could
legitimately want to do on a newsgroup, hence, unless the person is
coming here specifically to post ads, they shouldn't be frightened off
by a reminder not to post advertising.

The "fairness" of the "No Ads" posts has been discussed, ad nauseum,
for over 7 YEARS. Do you guys not get it yet...however "fair" or
"unwelcoming" you want to spin them as, they are much more legitimate
(not to mention non-abusive of the newsgroup) than any advertising
post is, regardless of what is being advertised, and I have no
intention of _not_ posting them, nor of _not_ responding the same way
to the advertisers themselves, via email.

The posts are neither rude nor harsh and ask posters or potential
posters to follow ONE STINKING RULE!!!

Deal with it.
