Default Semi OT - dang knitting

I am busily knitting scarves as gifts for various buddies. Last night I fell
asleep while working on one of them. This AM when I did quick count, I
discovered that I had lost 5 stitches. Can't see where either. So unravel
and restart! I'm counting every few rows now!

Major bummer!!! Not a whole lot more frustrating than trying to find out
exactly where a stitch disappeared!

I don't know if it will help, but I once had to rip out 5 rows of an afghan
(300 sts to a row in a lace pattern yet) when I discovered I'd made a mistake
and got the lace pattern off by a couple stitches.

In extreme complicated opatterns i usually thread a line here and
there, as i knit complete sweaters , no seams , every ripping takes
away a lot of work ,,,,thus if the pattern is complicated use an
embroidery needle with floss and thread it through the work , for
example where the pattern starts anew ....if you God Forbid , have to
rip , you know at leastto which line [=row] you rip it

Perhaps while you were dozing off you let the last stitch of the row fall
off
the needle?

That would have been obvious or at least more obvious that what ever did
happen.

She better love this scarf!

I'm sure she will. You have high craftmanship standards.

My thought was that if the stitch unravelling down encountered a wrap or
similar barrier, the stitch would disappear into the previous row, and wouldn't
be obvious at all.

Still, better to fix these things. I once knitted a sweater with a lace
dragonfly on the front, and I must have unravelled it about 15 times, front and
back because it was knit on the round. I got it done, but did not place the
stitches correctly on the needle, so one wing has a line across it. I notice it
every time I wear the sweater.

I'm also knitting a scarf out of some orphaned merino, and it is quite fine so
it is taking forever. Fortunately, I am babysitting a store today, and it won't
be busy, so I'll get lots of knitting done. The lady who is there during the
week is a cleaning whirlwind, so there won't be much else for me to do.
