In Japan people carry furoshiki with them most of the time. (According
to DH.) This is the usual way of carrying all sorts of things there. He
did bring home several furoshiki when he visited there. They are very
practical as well as nice looking.

I did wonder about the suggestion that you wrap groceries in one. Just
wonder what the reaction would be at my local supermarket if I produced
a tablecloth size piece of fabric and proceeded to wrap my purchases in it!

I do try to avoid plastic bags, but use homemade cotton bags instead,
not a 'tablecloth'!

yup, they got my attention.
just had a thot, after that link i put up for the 'will this work as a
quilt' circular knitted jacket thing...
i wonder, if you had the right size square/rectangle? and tied adjoining
corners to one another loosely,
could you not then wear it like a shrug?
put it across your shoulders and your arms thru the the hole near each knot.
hard for me to explain what i mean but seems to me it would work.
good grief, if it does, carrying a couple of big double sided squares and/or
rectangles of fabric will cover a carrying bag or that extra warmth ya might
need while out and about.
this is scarey, makes it almost too easy.
i oughta stop think'n some days, lol.
