Home from a retreat
I spent the last 2 days at a quilting retreat at an area Bible camp. I
had a fun, productive two days. Yesterday, I worked on a queen size quilt top that I had started at last spring's retreat. It is a variation of the Fifty-Four Forty or Fight block. (http://www.quilterscache.com/D_F/Fif...FightBlock.htm) I have the top in 3 large sections. I think I may machine quilt it, so I will quilt the center section before adding the sections on either end to reduce somewhat the bulk that I have to deal with. I figured finishing this top would take me most of the two days, but finished it by the end of the first day. Before I went, I had cut the pieces for a lap quilt in the Minnesota Hot Dish pattern just in case I needed something else to work on. I was glad I had. I have the center of that top done; I have the piano key border just about ready to attach. This one is various dark green prints with a sky blue background. I am calling it "Land of Sky Blue Waters" (which is what the word Minnesota means). I got the inspiration for this color combination last summer when we were on vacation; I was laying outside and looking up through the trees to the sky. I had been wanting to do something with some of the greens in my stash, but couldn't decide what to use for a background. When I noticed how beautiful the various shades of green were against the blue sky, I knew what I wanted to do. I am really pleased with how it's turning out. I'll try to get a picture up when I get it finished. Our group also had a good time doing Kim Graham's Mystery Mixer from her web site: http://members.shaw.ca/kigraham/mystery.html. I had found this a couple weeks ago and decided it looked like fun. I think everyone enjoyed doing it. I would recommend it for a group activity. Home from a retreat
Sounds like a marvelous week-end. I'd like to go to a retreat some time.
Your projects sound really fun, especially the pretty blues and greens one. Happy for ya!! Karen, Queen of Squishies |
