Question about Old Viking Sewing Machine
I recv'd an old Viking machine(from someone who knows nothing about
sewing machines) which appears to sew just fine except for the huge (3 rows of 15 settings/bs LCR Manual) red selection stitch/embroidery? knob which will not turn and will only allow normal stitch and zig zag. I've tried to search for this model (1366) on the net, but can't find any info. It looks like 1950's or 60's and has no style "name" except for Viking. Someone said it looks like an industrial grade machine, but it comes in an old carrying case, so I don't think it is. It's light grey and it also has a metal plate on the back which says Domestic Sewing Machine Company, Cleveland Ohio, and Toronto, Canada. Is this an embroidery machine as well as a normal sewing machine and is it worth repairing the stitch selector device? Has anyone heard of this particular model before? It's also got many more knobs and buttons and sub-buttons and positioning levers which I've never seen on a regular machine and it kind of makes it intimitading, but it does sew a normal stitch and reverse just fine. |

If the machine has a "Domestic Sewing Machine Company" label on it, then
the machine must be a Domestic sewing machine; maybe they named the model Viking and it isn't made by Husqvarna at all. Just guessing here... flan wrote: I recv'd an old Viking machine(from someone who knows nothing about sewing machines) which appears to sew just fine except for the huge (3 rows of 15 settings/bs LCR Manual) red selection stitch/embroidery? knob which will not turn and will only allow normal stitch and zig zag. Just a thought here; In Canada, the chain store Eaton's used 'Viking' as
their house brand name for appliances, just as Sears uses Kenmore. When I was looking for my first new machine in 1976, I looked at Husqvarna as well as other brands. They were not called Viking then, at least in Ontario. So it seems at least possible that this is not a Husqvarna-Viking you have, but a house brand made by Domestic for Eaton's. Make sure the stitch width is set to zero before trying to change the stitch selector. Roger. -- Yarn Forward Your On Line Yarn Store http://www.yarnforward.com |

I guess it well could be related to the Husqvarnas since it came out at the same time, roughly, but did the Domestic Sewing Machine Co. ever make Vikings, or were the Husqvarnas only made by one company called Viking? Actually, after fiddling around with the machine for a bit, I found that the stich selector does work (as suggested, I think it had to be set to 0 or some such similar setting), and everything on the machine seems to work as well. It's just that it's such a clunky, heavy, complicated looking thing, with up/down, left, right and center settings, and other strange settings that it's still kind of off-putting, even though it sews well. |

AFAIK, Husquavarna/Viking are one and the same, at least on the old one, and they did not go by any other name. They are great machines, bts, still have an old 6000. Penny S |

They did. A simple Google search turned up a manual (on several sites) for
that particular model. All the original poster had to do was look. "Ann Knight" wrote in message ...
